Unfortunately, I don't have the money, a home internet connection, or even a TV, (I'm posting from a friend's house, it's where I spend most of my time) so I won't be getting in on the hotness. ;_;

Ditto, save for the TV, and making the internet broadband. ;_; I'd hate to buy it then half-live at my relative's place for the first few weeks following.

My sister is a Phantasy Star Online addict so she is definetly getting the game.. So I may just bum a slot off of her to remake my awesome chubby beast girl of doom. I hope I can find the rare I got on the PS2.. The dreaded GLOVE GUN which makes an irritating GAKO sound every time its fired! That thing regained energy almost as fast as I could spend it.

So that's probably going to be another $80 in the hole for me.
$50 for the game, $30 for the new wireless router I have to buy because my old one stopped working :<

It seems that the purchase of PSU when it hits the UK might need to be supplemented with the purchase of a new graphics card. I'm not going to lie, that concept is putting me off the whole PSU thing.

Another big piece of news about PSU is that the US PC version of it apparently doesn't have a CD key. Which means...well you know what it means.

Ah...
I picked up my pre-ordered copy today. I misread the warnings on the back at first, and feared that I would need to purchase a "hunter's license" just to play the offline portion.
I was pleasantly surprised, however. Well...pleasantly surprised in that aspect; unpleasantly surprised on my first attempt at running the game after installing, wherein nothing happened after clicking "Start Story Mode." After a short trip to the official website's troubleshooting section (...which didn't solve my problem), I glanced at the system requirements and saw that I needed DirectX 9.0c. I was pretty sure that this is what I had, but I downloaded it and installed it anyway. Lo and behold, the first problem was solved.
The second problem was again on my end; the game ran quite slowly until I made it a save-point, saved and quit, and then toned down the graphics settings quite a bit. What baffles me is that other than the enemies suddenly appearing quite closely, the only option-change that made a noticable difference was switching from Windowed Mode to fullscreen. The game still slows a bit during some battles, but it's nothing worth further lowering settings about; although I haven't seen any real changes yet, there's still the chance that I'll stumble across a setting that will make a noticalbe change.
The single-player mode ("Story Mode") is quite amusing. It follows the tale of Ethan [...I forgot his last name], a somewhat wreckless 17-year-old with a hatred for a private police-style group known as "the Guardians."
Everyone was enjoying an era of peace until strange alien meteorites (...they must have some connection to Dark Falz, I'm sure of it!) suddenly bombard the Guardian space colony in the middle of a ceremony of some sort. Falling rubble separates Ethan from his younger sister Lumia, and the first Chapter of the game has you fighting your way through the debris in an effort to find a way to save her. Along the way you learn why Ethan hates the Guardians, end up fighting one of the SEED alien-things, and so on.
I'll stop the plot summary there; I've only just completed the second Chapter and I'm done for the night, but I have a feeling that there is a lot more that I need to learn. What is interesting, however, is that each Chapter plays out somewhat like an episode of a TV show; there is a standard opening sequence that plays before each chapter, a standard ending sequence with slight changes for each chapter (different character portraits at the end are the only changes I've seen so far, but again I've only completed two chapters), and finally after the ending a sequence a small preview of the coming chapter, complete with a voiceover that ends with "Find out in [Chapter Name]" (or something to that effect) and text showing "Chapter [#]: [Chapter Name]."

$9.99 (US dollars) for all available systems. $9.99 (US dollars) for all available systems. $9.99 (US dollars) for all available systems. Xbox Live has a monthly fee to pay for the servers why the hell did Microsoft let Sega get away with this bullshit again?
Minimum: 1.6GHz P4, 256MB RAM, 9.0GB HDD, 64MB video card, DirectX 9.0c Great job Sega you have outdone yourselves this time, I'm sure when Sonic 2006 is finally brought to the PC it will take up 1.0TB

I'm pretty certain that you have to have a Live subscription.

... The hell? What was announced was that the 360 version wouldn't connect to the other, but would use Live and thus not require the monthly subscription cost. Granted thinking back on that, it wouldn't make much sense -_- bleeeh. If you already use Live for other games, it's not such a shot in the head, but I loathe monthly user fees, especially since I don't have a lot of time to devote to a single game. Cross-platforming and the massive game options just makes it trickier. Dammit, I sink lots of time into Oblivion, but I still played both the GC AND the N64 yesterday. Still need to make more progress on Space Station Silicon Valley ... dat game sew neet. Sometimes it's a bitch having a large-scale collection =|. But yeah, confirmation of PSU 360 charging for the hunter's license plz. It'll totally seal if I get it or not.

Xbox Live has a monthly fee to pay for the servers why the hell did Microsoft let Sega get away with this bullshit again? I found out why it "makes sense" for things to be charged like that on Live. Xbox Live primarily sets up peer-to-peer online play, it doesn't use server-based online play (which would be faster). PSU REQUIRES a server base for online play and security reasons, so that's still coming out of Sega's pocket to run them. That's going to be the same thing on PS3, no matter what "free online play" BS they spout. Save for a few special investments Sony will help fund (let's say Resistance, for example), the server-based stuff (MMOs and such) will cost money to play on. The direct peer-to-peer matchmaking's cheap to do. (Which is why once you know this, you do feel a little ripped off with Xbox Live. But it does still cost some money to run, coordinate, maintain, and the PS3 stuff isn't centralized as well.)

Yeah its been known for awhile about the monthly fee, and I'm pretty sure you don't need a gold subscription to play, that was just for the Beta to limit the amount of users playing.

And those are free... so it doesnt matter.
