I don't own a PS2 because everybody owns one, so if I wanted to play one, I'd just go to any of my friends' houses.

I'm with Sz here. I bought a Dreamcast. Y'know what made me laugh? How people (in the casual gmaer sector) kept saying there were no good games for Dreamcast, and yet when Sega went third party bought PS2 ports of Dreamcast games by the truckload. (Crazy Taxi went to #1 on the PS2 charts here. Ironically, I once saw a glowing review of Crazy Taxi - for PS2, naturally - in a university magazine on the same page as an article on how the PS2 had much better games than all those other consoles.)
Blaze's list:
MGS3 non-subsistence is $9.99 <- I hate stealth games. GTAVC is $7.99 <- Multiplatform MGS2 is $4.99 <- See MGS3 Gran Turismo 3 is $3.99 <- Yawn Onimusha Warlords is $3.99 <- Not gripped me VF4 is $3.99 <- I'll pay you that one, but I'm not buying a PS2 for VF4 Devil May Cry is $9.99 <- *shrug* Twisted Metal Black is $6.99 <- Three billion other similar games are out Jak & Daxter is $6.99 <- crap Manhunt is $9.99 <- crap Ace Combat 4 is $9.99 <- *shrug* Red Dead Revolver is $9.99 <- not gripped me Deus Ex $4.99 <- see above Onimusha 2, $6.99 <- see above Jak II is $7.99 <- see Jak 1 The Mark of Kri, $4.99 <- never heard of it MDK2 is $2.99 <- bah Resident Evil Code Veronica X, $9.99 <- RE series is multiplatform SSX Tricky, $6.99 <-multiplatform Tekken 4, $9.99 <-most overrated fighting series in history Shinobi $9.99 <- *shrug* Midway Arcade Treasures 3, $8.99 (gonna have to pick that up!) <- i like retro, but there are other collections Gungrave $9.99 <- *shrug* Nightshade (Shinobi 2) $9.99 <-see above Ratchet & Clank $9.99 <- don't care Sly Cooper $9.99 <- See above Maximo & The Army of Zin $7.99 <- Who and the what of where? Rayman 2: Revolution $7.99 <- So goddamned multiplatform it's not even funny (already own it for Dreamcast AND DS: no need to buy it again) Beyond Good & Evil $9.99 <- possibly pay you that one Sega Soccer Slam $7.99 <- better on the other platforms, especially in the PAL territories where the Xbox and Gamecube versions got the bonus teams Viewtiful Joe $9.99 <- Got it on Gamecube. Great game, but no need to buy it again, Dante or no Dante. Viewtiful Joe 2 $7.99 <- multiplatform Sega Classics Collection $9.99 <- possibly pay you that, but may as well emulate Escape from Monkey Island $9.99 <- *shrug* Killer 7 $8.99 <- multiplatform Ridge Racer V $5.99 <- RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER! Don't care.
For roughly the price you'd pay for a Burger King game ($4 Value Meal order, $4 game), you could get a PS2 game that is likely much better
I can get The Sims 1 free with a pizza at certain times of the year, too. SHould I get it? I'm happy with my DC, Xbox, Gamecube and 360. None of the games on your list are must-have, unmissable, killer apps that are worth my buying a PS2 at this late stage in its lifespan at any price. They eliminate the need for a PS2 (or PS3). I couldn't give a toss about Metal Gear or Tekken. Or Ridge Racer.

Because there are a lot of games on it worth giving a chance. You might be surprised and find something you didn't think you'd like, and it's getting cheap enough to where doing that is a cost-effective possibility. Not to criticize you or anything at all, and I dont really mind you buying these games for cheap. The problem is that you people in #srb2 seem to attack me for this reason as to why I have so many games. Granted, theres some I havent gotten around to beating because of this, but come ON.

Mark of Kri was a game described as "a very brutal disney movie". You played as a barbarian with this weapon called a Taiaha. It was praised for it's combat system, which allowed you to fight foes even if you were surrounded; each button on the PS2 controller (triangle, circle, square and X) would appear over a certain nearby enemy's head. Press that button and the barbarian automatically faces that enemy and attacks them. It was described as "a very brutal disney movie" because it had a simplistic, well-animated style about it, particularly resembling Lilo & Stitch.
It had a sequel, Rise of the Kasai, where you played not only as the Barbarian from the first game, but most of his immediate family (wife, daughter, grandfather, and son? I don't remember), but it wasn't quite as well accepted, as I recall.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, and the sequel, Maximo and the Army of Zin were spiritual successors of the Ghosts N' Goblins games made by Capcom. They were 3D. The original Maximo was quite litterally a first-gen PS2 game, and Maximo & The Army of Zin got pretty much zero marketing. According to Wikipedia, Maximo 3 was planned, but canned, after Army of Zin had less-than-desirable sales (can't imagine why! I didn't see a single advertisement for it or even a preview in any magazines).

This thread sucks because its reminded me that I was going to get around to playing Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai but never did. So now I likely have to do that. And I intended to do that like a year ago.

I got a PS2 because I wanted to play PSX RPG games something fierce. Now most of the games I have for it are RPGs.
I can understand someone not wanting the console. What confuses me is all of the bashing of Sony and such. I've never had any problems with...any of my electronic devices, actually. Although my Virtualboy's starting to act up. A few exceptions, sure, but for the bulk, all my stuff works :/
A lot of my stuff's at least 5 years old now. People really wreak hell on some things :o
It seems like there's an air of bias at PS2, but that could just be a misconception.
I did actually get most of Nintendo's systems, but I have no fan bias of any given company. I just get what apeals to me. Although getting a GC on launch was fun because it was the day before my birthday, and Wii launches when I turn 20. It's kind of fun. Maybe I'll get a DS when I get Wii.
This thread made me lol though :D

Dude, Onimusha 2 was PS2 only. MAH BAD. I figured if the first one was (The one I actually looked up) the second one was too. Still though, 17 out of this load of, "Potentially great cheap games for ps2" I can already get without owning a PS2.

One game I DO suggest: Time Splitters Future Perfect. If you liked Rare's shooters, you might give this one a shot. Features Single and Multiplayer modes, tons of unlockable features like over 100 multiplayer characters, about 10 Single Player missions, System Link multiplayer, create your own maps, play online against others.

Concerning Blaze's list, I have to say that I enjoyed Ratchet & Clank 1 and Sly Cooper much more than Super Mario Sunshine and any of the Sonic 3D platformers(SA1 second opinion still pending) and this is coming from someone who didn't care for Crash or Spyro in the PS1-era. And Jak and Daxter 1 is more average than crap. hidden message

I don't doubt that Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank are better than all post SA1 games. But perhaps that's because to me, it's not saying much.

Sure, but the PS2 version doesnt have online fees, the Gamecube version doesnt go online or have System Link, and I think you can trade maps online, too. I own the GCN version so I cant really praise the online features...

I own the GCN version so I cant really praise the online features... I dont really count xbox live as an online fee. Its a service. It'd be a fee if you had to pay monthly, just to play Timesplitters, but you dont. Also, xbox live's online is all-aroundly better than ps2's online service, and a lot of us already have xbox live (Like myself) so even if I had a PS2, I'd buy the xbox version for the better online play/features I know I'd get with xbox live. Map trading is probably not available for the PS2 version, just because of lack of HDD. Although I may be wrong.

The PS2 has an HDD, but it's not compatible with the slim PS2.

The PS2 has an HDD, but it's not compatible with the slim PS2. Yeah, but it's only needed for FFIX, so developers cant expect people to have it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2_HDDI guess more than just FFIX uses it, but Timesplitters future perfect evidently doesnt.

Some people (like me) actually like to buy GOOD games though, and dont just settle with, "Whatever is cheapest" and not care if its a good game or not. And if I have to buy a $100 console for 3 or 4 games that ARE good, and do intrest me on a console, or settle with 5 dollar bargain bin games, that blow ass, why even buy the console? I DONT WANT TO PLAY DRAGON BALL Z SAGAS! Wait, wait wait, assuming an OLD early release game isn't good based on it's price is silly. The fact that gamestop (back when it was "Funcoland") was selling Sonic 2 Genesis carts for around 2$ doesn't make it a bad game, does it? You better believe it doesn't! There are good titles that sold for high profits in thier day that can easily be snagged for under 20$ now.
