That's interesting, Blaze. I honestly never knew that.

Funny how something that was apparently supposed to replace Sega's #1 mascot is suddenly never heard from again.
Granted, I've seen Bug, and... no. That's most definately not mascot material. First of all, the name's about as unimaginative as it gets. It looks pretty ugly, IMO. Not the face to grace the name of a company. Furthermore, Mario STOMPS bugs (Buzzy Beetle, Fighter Flies, among other animals and vegetation) in his games ALL THE TIME.
Nope, it's good they sticked with the hedgehog. The 'hog got much more charisma.

I wondered what the Sonic cameo in Bug was about.
Out of curiosity Blaze what was your source for that infomation? only if it's a site that contains details on this and other SEGA stuff I'ld love to know about it cuz I'm a sucker for gaming history and trivia XD.
I'ld also say it's kinda hard to invision Bug! a mascot, he's not as loveable or as cute as Sonic (you have to admit the Old Skool Sonic had a certain kind of cuteness to him, even SA Sonic still retains that a little) and the other Characters in the two games are not very memorable. I dont have many memories of the characters from Bug! myself

Didn't know all that about Bug! But yeah, he's deff not mascot material - although, having said that the sequel, Bug Too!, was much more lovable with that hilarious disco brocolli bug and that cute maggot dog thing

Just stuff you pick up over the years. I remember hearing about the Bug! TV show back in the day in Ultra Gameplayers shortly before Bug Too! hit shelves (they also talked about a Rayman TV series, which apparently did premier in some form in France, I believe). As for where I heard of Bug! being Sega's new mascot - I don't actually remember now specifically where I heard it, but I do remember it seeming like a really official source. Could've been an old issue of EGM, or something. I know that doesn't help my case for the believability of what I said, but like I mentioned - I do recall it being a trustworthy source and not some sort of BS fanboy rambling on a random website.

Assuming you're right, I'm glad that the Saturn bombed.

Assuming you're right, I'm glad that Sega Soft bombed. Fixed. Mind you, Sega Swirl was cool.

I love Sega Swirl. Wasn't there a PC version for free somewhere?

Bug was too unappealing to be a mascot--especially a Sega one. I mean you would expect Bug to be a character from a EA or Acclaim platformer. Heck even Bubsy was more aestetically pleasing than Bug.
Now if you want to name a Sega character that was cool to be a mascot for Saturn(Sonic alternative) then look no further than NiGHTS him(her)self.
