Now you die. And do not you touch the polar bear! I will kill you for that.
Sonic 3D was not as impressive as it could have been. What about Virtua Racing? That was more mind-blowing. Dynamite Headdy was one of the more visually interesting titles in my book. Granted everyone still hates it, but those people don't matter.

Sonic 3D was VERY impressive, and no one should ever believe otherwise. Traveler's Tales tend to do well with that.

Yeah, it was a good game as far as icometric platformers go, but it just didn't really feel fast enough to be a sonic-y game, IMO. That and the badniks were a real bugger to jump on (Or maybe I'm just crap at it ^^

No, you're right. There's a technical reason that SA has a homing jump, and it's also the reason they included the gold shield.

Sonic 3D wasn't a bad game at all - but the Megadrive version was (obviously) inferior to the Saturn/PC version. And even then, the only thing you really missed was a map and a slightly different Bonus Stage.

Sonic 3D isn't a bad game, it's a bad Sonic game. It's an okay game if you seperate it from the rest of the series.

Sonic 3D Blast would also be a lot more tolerable with some form of Savegame format. Levels take far too long to clear, so trying to beat the whole game in a single sitting is almost impossible.

Well the PC version of the game has a Save Game in it.

Sonic 3D was not as impressive as it could have been. What about Virtua Racing? That was more mind-blowing. Not exactly a fair comparison, Virtua Racing for the Genesis had an extra chip built in (sort of like the SNES's Super FX chip) to handle the polygons. It was also large and friggin' expensive, if I recall correctly. (And the cheapie rerelease Genesis 3's don't work with it.)

That's because the Genesis 3's had somewhat different hardware, so a lot of tricks developers had used couldn't be pulled. Also, H, technically speaking only, Sonic 3D for Genesis was a better game if only for its technical achievements. I've personally never played it for Saturn, but I'd like to for Richard Jacques' score. EDIT: Spelling

The Saturn version is basically a much prettier version of the Genesis game. Sprites have an insane color depth and lots of animations were added to the levels themselves (monkeys climbing in and out of the palmtrees in Green Grove, for instance).
Also, as boasted on the back of the box, the Saturn version has a "detailed" weather system, which generally means very little. It rains in Rusty Ruin (and fog rolls in, which is just a transparent layer over the screen) and it snows in Diamond Dust. That's about it.
Special Stages are polygonal remakes of Sonic 2's special stages, more or less. Layouts are different and there are slight changes to how they work, but the concept is generally the same: get rings, get emerald.

I just really liked the Sonic 3D Saturn bonus stages, though, it was cool the way Sonic ran through them, and the music was excellent.

Still, Sonic 3D was a mindless, boring 3D run around with not much to do. Without Sonic, it would be made fun of by many reviewers just due to how shallow and non-existant everything is.
I really hated this game, but the bonus stages in the Saturn version is all thats good that came out of the name of Sonic 3D Blast (Gameplay wise)

Off the topic of S3D, I am actually somewhat surprised the original Bug isn't getting included into something like this - it is related what with Sonic being in a bonus stage. Man, I now feel like playing Bug Too! - why did I give that away?

Because Bug! was rather shite? (IMO)

You can get Bug PC from the Underdogs if you want to play that, but I'll step up, I liked it, too, and wouldnt mind seeing it in this collection.

Screw Bug!. The only reason Sega created Bug! was to replace Sonic. They figured with the Saturn being a new generation, Sega needed a new mascot. Why do you think Bug races Sonic in the first game? To make players think Bug! was cooler than Sonic. They were planning a TV series and everything. But when the Saturn flopped, so did Bug!, and so did the plans to make him Sega's new mascot.
That could also be why the Saturn lacked a Sonic game for the longest time (and it never did get a "real" Sonic game, just weird spinoffs).
So yeah. Bug! is a traitor. Cliched little green bastard ("Hey, it's like Gex, but a Bug!") doesn't belong on a Sonic collection.
