I like D.Gray-man better than Bleach. I can't hate on Allen and his chums, but D.Gray-man has yet to reach the level that Bleach got to at one point in the SS arc. (regretably, Bleach is kinda arsing around in the manga now. Alas.) Anyway, clearly D.Gray-man becomes awesome once my sig happens. It's like a sort of awesome osmosis.

I like Now and Then, Here and There more than Bleach.
Kino's Journey is also better than Bleach.

Bleach would be a great show if it just got rid of all that boring crap about hunting ghosts. I am sorry but in no way is Ichigo's exorcism any more interesting then when Ray, Peter, Winston, and Egon do it. oh btw. THE SPIRITS ARE ALWAYS WITH YOUUUU BWA-HA-HA!!!!!

I love Bleach because I eat up shounen shows like they are CRACK. I like good shounen shows because somehow there are so many that the good ones are better than almost every other genre's. Or maybe it's because they're character driven and all the good characters can be neatly recycled with maximal results? Or that just one or two really good ones happened and everyone else followed the mold to suprisingly good results? Not sure. But I mean: Dragonball Kenshin (just rewatched, 1000% awesome) Trigun (it counts, right? Right???) YYH Bleach One Piece Naruto (for 20 some volumes) D.Gray-man aaaand I'm totally sure I've forgotten some other really good ones too. The point is, something like 10 of the top 20 manga/anime series ever are probably shounen series (granted, I am too lazy to make such a list. Apart from Berserk is still #1), which is just a ridiculous ratio. Like if half of the greatest books ever were fantasy (they aren't) or something.

but wouldn't you say that shonen series possibly appeal to you because you, incidently, are a boy?

^Speaking of that why would Death Note be in Shonen Jump instead of its big brother, Ultra Jump?

^Speaking of that why would Death Note be in Shonen Jump instead of its big brother, Ultra Jump? Death Note is still aimed at a shounen audience, in spite of its themes.

but wouldn't you say that shonen series possibly appeal to you because you, incidently, are a boy? A 20 year old American male is a bit too far off to be considered part of the target audience, IMO. PS: I forgot to add that not only was I not calling Berserk shounen (um, it's not even close), but also that it and, for instance, the Cowboy Bebop anime defy any proper genre classification -- well, apart from "masterpiece".

Men are men in body only. Always boy in mind and spirit.
So anyone with a y chromosome is the target audience.

Shounen (boys ages 6-14) and Seinen (men aged 18-30+) aren't classifications of genre, they are specific demographics for which a product can be aimed at. Shounen is only considered a genre because of the clichés associated with it.
