That was geniunely weird.
About 20 minutes ago, I was sitting on the couch, playing Sonic for the 360. Despite it being a terrible game, I would like to raise my Gamerscore a bit, so I was fooling around with it trying to complete various tasks.
When suddenly, I hear this sound. The dogs laying on the couch next to me sit up unexpectedly - they heard it too. It was loud. It sounded kind of like thunder. Our dogs are afraid of thunder, and I know we're supposed to be getting a snowstorm soon, so I head over to the front door to check it out.
There's not a cloud in the sky.
I walk back to the computer, where Mom is doing whatever. I ask her if she heard it - and she says she did. She thinks it's somebody rolling their trash can out; I'm sure many of you have similar trashcans - really big, blue, with wheels on them. They make a loud rumble when you roll them.
I head back to the living room and poke my head out the front door - silence. No sight of trashcans, no sight of anything, really. I shrug it off - whatever. Close and lock the door, sit back down, and resume doing Town Missions in Sonic.
A minute or two later - I hear it again, louder than ever. Now I'm suspicious. If somebody already rolled their trashcans out, why would they be rolling them out again? We live on the corner of a street, and we have two doors - a side door in the kitchen and the front door in the living room, both face a street. I head over to the side door to see if I can see anybody out there doing anything.
What I ended up seeing - I'm not quite sure what it was. There was a light - a bright light. Very large. Eminating from the ground behind the houses that I consider the "horizon", shining into the sky, as this rumbling was happening. It flickered. I rush back to the computer.
"They aren't moving their trash cans!"
"Yes they are."
"NO they're not. Something REALLY weird is going on, there's a light or something outside."
She comes up to the door and looks outside.
Nothing. The light is gone, the rumbling has stopped. No news reports on the TV or on the Radio.
What the hell was that? Fireworks? I didn't see anything in the sky itself, just light eminating from the ground upwards. the house I could see the light behind had it's lights on while this was happening, and now the place is pitch black.
I feel like Tom Hanks in The 'Burbs all of a sudden.
