In Windows XP, open notepad and type 'Bush hid the facts', then save the document and open it again.

Does not work on ME, though.
I wonder if this is like how in early versions of Word, typing "I will kill Bill Gates" would get it replaced with "I'll drink to that".

old'd
There's no conspiracy, it just has something to do with how notepad saves files...that particular text string just happens to be one of many that will give results; granted, I'm sure that most of the other strings are random nonsense but that's besides the point.

Notepad bug'd Opening it in a hex editor gives the proper result.

But seriously, how the hell does MS manage to screw up text file saving. That's just absurd.

Um... Notepad bug'd Opening it in a hex editor gives the proper result. It doesn't mess up saving, it messes up reading. Protip: make the first two letters of a text file "ÿþ". Put any even number of letters in the file. Same result.
