G4 sucks. I don't mean the Apple Computer, or the music band. I mean the television network. According to gaming site Gamespot, G4 has acquired rerun rights to Star Trek. This I find unsurprising, after they cancelled long-running shows Filter and G4TV.com and are revamping Icons to cover more non-video game related people. And showing such programming as the short-lived FOX show Fastlane and reruns of The Man Show. G4 has hit a new low. It was decent back in the early days, but it's just unwatchable now. It was tolerable during the merge with TechTV, but then they fired all the good people and cancelled the good shows, and made other shows worse. Plus all the badgering I've heard from former hosts/producers, I find G4 to be a poorly made network. As I said, it was tolerable. Some of the hosts weren't obnoxious, they had decent programming, hell, they aired Starcade at one time. But all that went to hell when they grabbed TechTV, stripped it of all it's clothing and threw the body into an alley. Star Trek is on Sci-Fi Channel and Spike TV, and those are on more cable systems than G4. I'm also begging any and all people who work there to find a better place. Kevin Pereira, you're one of the only people left on that network who I still like. And by the looks of the network, I doubt your job's gonna last any longer, so you might as well jump ship. I don't care if anyone says it's decent, don't watch it. I'm begging you. Icons is going to crap is so is Cinematech. All the decent programs are going to crap. And instead of a video game channel, we're getting a bad Spike TV knockoff. Spike TV automatically wins because it has World's Wildest Police Videos and MacGyver reruns. Something G4 will probably never get. So yes, don't watch it. Boycott it. Tell your friends to stop watching. Even if they want to watch just to see Morgan Webb, don't watch it. Watching it only proves people want this dreck when there's other networks that give more or less the same thing. By not watching it, the network suffers and before you know it, it's gone. And if I've already touched on the subject matter already, I apologize.

It's a nice sentiment, but seriously, I think you've posted in the wrong place. I was under the impression that a very large number of people here are already boycotting G4.

I don't watch any TV at all, so will do!
Granted this means technically I boycott all programming anyway. It's well worth it to have the Atari ready at all times*.
I'm going to bet it's the 'reduced for time' Star Trek, too. I saw it on Sci-Fi years ago, and it was hacked to the point of removing nist continuity. By no means was it as bad as the Japanese rape of Red Dwarf, but it STILL sucked. It made it even worse that it was the Tribble episode. We do so love small fluffy things that hiss at poorly makeuped (in that era) aliens.
*I do know I could split the coax line and HAVE DONE so the NES and MS could run also. I'm just too much of a bitch to add another one.

I hate them! First they lie about Shadow, then they insult the GCN on their christmas thing on Sonic Rush (the second they said "Oh cmon even Jesus doesn't have a game cube" I changed the channel on their ass)
THE WRATH OF MOBIUS IS UPON THEM!

Uh... Hol... they're GUYS. Guys are typically embracing of a select few or even just one system to the exclusion of all others. It's like a sports team to some guys. At least that's what I figure.
Jesus does not NEED a Gamecube, anyway. If he's around, he just wants humanity to act less like suck-puppets. He doesn't do commercial endorsements to the best of my knowledge.

Except Kevin Pereira sucks and is one of the worst people there. Plus you just copy/pasted what you wrote in your LJ you lazy butt.
I still pay attention to XPlay though, because it's a half decent source for what games are good and bad, and for the most part I agree with what they say.

Ewww. Star Trek?
First the Man Show, then Star Trek? What the hell is G4 smoking? This was supposed to be a gaming channel, not a Spike TV clone!

HEY, it's not like there's anything wrong with Star Trek. It's a bad choice for this network, but it's not bad.
Unless you mean old Star Trek. Thats's good for laughs.

Am I the only one who thinks Star Trek would fit right in? It's part of the geek subculture. Certainly belongs on G4 more than, say, Fast Lane, Formula D, 90% of the shows on Barbed Wire Biscuit, The Man Show, Training Camp... (The list goes on)

That's just it, G4 isn't a geeky network anymore, just a loser one.
The only thing awesome left on G4 is Cinematech, particularly Nocturnal Emissions (the late-night version), because it airs an excellent mix of brand new trailers of Japanese games (as in, "This trailer just came out last week or earlier this week" in some occassions), old obscure stuff from all different regions, some interesting current stuff, some dumb or humor, some adult soft, and is just generally... awesome. I think the person who organizes it has also posted a bit to GAF as well, I remember something about him making a remark there about receiving materials from someone else there.
It's the ONLY reason I ever browse for G4 anymore. An excellent trailers show.

Agreed. I would say icons, but the last two episodes were like, George A. Romero, and King Kong. That's cool and all, but I really don't care about king kong. I'd rather watch Icons: Keyboard then learn about how George Romero got his inspiration.

The hip, refreshing Jesus with a lemon scent! Granted I still think Father Ted is the best show to mix religion and... stuff. God actually does manifest, but mostly to annoy Ted, and never directly. Like when the really, really quiet priest was driving Ted insane, and he begged the Lord to intervene. And thus the quiet priest was struck by lightning when Ted forced him to try mini-golf in a storm. WHOO! Not that this has anything to do with anything.

Fuck you G4 fuck you. I just heard they are gonig to stop showing Call for Help another fuck you to G4. I am getting sick of them ruining Icons, I don't want them covering anything that doesn't involve games, they did one on King Kong what the Christ? As much as I love Star Trek it just doesn't belong, oh but think of all the "OMG YOU NERDS THAT HAVE NEVER TOUCHED A GIRL BETTER WATCH BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WANT TO GET IT ON WITH BLUE CHICKS THAT ARE HOT" commercials that will insue. Cheat should have been canned not Filter. The Golf channel may be lame but at least it actually is about nothing but golf!

Plus you just copy/pasted what you wrote in your LJ you lazy butt. But seriously, yes, I can understand this forum has an almost mutual hatred towards the network. I just thought the "G4 acquires Star Trek" thing was interesting. I wonder if this'll harm reruns on Spike TV, seeing as they have the majority of the series, and all...

You better hope X-Play is playing and they are reviewing a game and not doing a lame skit, or you will be sucked into the lameness.

SpikeTV has Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. If I understand correctly, G4 only got the rights to the original series, which is showing on SciFi anyway.
