After the credit screen, often, you must reset your system to get away from the "Thank you for playing".

In most of the current-gen games I've played once you beat them they go back to the title screen. Apparently most Square-Enix games still do the reset thing though.

Erm, what's wrong with that? I mean do you honestly want to go straight to the menu after completing a whole game? And if you have spent hours playing a game, what's with spending a few extra seconds pressing reset? For me, I don't mind, it lends a sense of finality that the game is truely over and you are left with the symbolic act of turning the console off.

In X-men on the Sega Genesis after you beat a certain boss the computer in the background says something along the lines of reset the computer now. In order to continue to the next level you have to go and press reset on the Sega Genesis.

is that the one where the game starts soon as you turn the system on, and you just have to reset until you get the character you want? And then the title screen is after the first level.

The problem here is, if there are things to do after completing the storyline of the game, you cannot save that way. Meaning that you never get your game really 100% complete, like Artemus stated.

The only game I've seen that does that is Super Mario World.

I just beat Xenogears last night, and that's what it does. Granted, that's a PS1 Squaresoft game.

I hate it too, 'cos I'm usually all "... nooo, I want more, don't leave me " XD I do like the symbolic act of turning the console off, though... I think my favorite thing was after you beat Paper Mario 2, you can load your file up again and everyone is like "Hooray welcome back Mario! WHAT CRAZY SHIT WE GONNA GET INTO THIS TIME? B-)" It sorta welcomes you back. XD It was cool.
