How about instead of linking to an old Penny Arcade comic, you link to a source?

People expected these games to be free? From the company who charge $20 a piece for classic NES games on the GBA?
Actually wait, has that Xbox Arcade thing ever been free, also?

I assumed they would be selling all the games. When PS2 came out and everyone found out it was backwards compatible did people thing PS1 games would be free?

Hmph, that Iwata. They announced before that all Nintendo-produced (not published) games would be available for free on the Revolution. They're now going back on their word because they aren't clear about what they're going to do (he even says that). I never _expected_ them initially to do the "free Nintendo games" thing, but once they promised it, they should've stuck with it. It wasn't IGN's fault nor any other site, a major Nintendo rep said it.
But I'm a little shocked that they say that downloadable game demos aren't so big a deal, I assume the demos are for current games, that's pretty big for a Nintendo who only allowed one GCN demo disc to fall into user hands (the VJ/SADX one). But with so little internal storage, you're going to have to buy and fill up SD-Cards fast for those... :/

Muhh. Dissappointed, but no biggie, I s'pose...ANYTHING TO GET MY GRUBBY HANDS ON ROGUE SQUADRON 1.
Although, the idea of getting the games for every game you buy, I'm ok with, and would be my favored route at this point, as long as:
1. You get a decent amount of games (5 would be nice.) 2. You could "exchange" a game for another; say, if I was bored playing Super Mario World or something I could delete that and download Mario Paint to replace it.

Theres a PC version of Rogue Squadron 1. You can probably find it at a bargain thing at Best Buy or something.
This'll be a good chance for me to get Paper Mario 1, since I just plum forgot abut it the last time (And I hear its better than PM2, I was rather disappointed by PM2...)
I just want to know if any of Rare's non Nintendo games will be downloadable. I'm sure there wont, but theres that one little spark of hope.

Paper Mario 1 is indeed interesting. I have yet to beat it, as I didn't get around to buying it until a few weeks ago, but it's a really fun game. I found what I've played of Paper Mario 2 to be better, but that's probably because I was playing someone else's file on Paper Mario 2, and they already had most of the game completed (and therefore most of the cool powerups and abilities).

Paper Mario 1 is definatly better than PM2, and you are a whore for not getting it right when it came out, Bartman.

Paper Mario was ok. I haven't played the second game yet, so I can't argue about it.
I still loved the fact that you could rip 17 HP of damage on those skeleton koopas with fire flowers. That was always hilarious.

They announced before that all Nintendo-produced (not published) games would be available for free on the Revolution. They're now going back on their word because they aren't clear about what they're going to do (he even says that) I never remember anybody ever saying they'd be free. Every report during E3 I read said the same thing: Pricing on the "Virtual Console" games was undetermined. Perhaps he said he'd LIKE them to be free at one point, but I seriously don't ever remember him making a commitment to them actually being free.

It wasn't Iwata, but I'm sure someone major from Nintendo said it. But that obviously doesn't matter now. I always expected them to charge, so I didn't understand the "free" comment in the first place, now it's clear that even Nintendo realizes giving out some of their games for nothing would be a bit daft, except for giving people a HUGE reason to pick up the Rev and not buy a new game ever.

Expected. Though the games should at least be competitive. The GBA Classic series was far overpriced considering the originals can still be found at lower prices on average. The fair average for NES games would have to be about $5-$10 to make it worth them at all. Ditto for the SNES games. N64 could realistically go $10-$15. Let's watch them make them all $20 XD.
Still for the unattainables, it wouldn't be bad. But it's still no reason to give up the originals.
