I'm baaaaaack!
Now under the kind wing of Bright house cable, aka Roadrunner!
But there is more to this than just that! I now have a complete story to tell. A story of faulty equipment, stupid mergers and annoying tech people. And it all beguines with one Mr. Trystan Poe who wished to not have to wait for images to load.. ever again.
so lets go back to early October when the phones at our house suddenly stopped working. Or rather they seemed to think they were always off the hook.
We had only just begun to ponder why this might have happened when our DSL went bye bye.
Everyone knows the reason for that. But the phones turned out to be something else entirely. It took us being transfered back and forth between the DSL department and the Phone department (which turned out to be in two entirely different countries, or so it seemed) more times and over more days than any sane person would tolerate, but we finally managed to yell at them enough that they sent an actual AT&T tech person over to look at the lines. Before we had gotten SBC tech people, since SBC actually owns the lines (which was half the whole hell-filled problem itself) and they were less than helpful. They pointed out that if we were SBC members, they could help us, but since we weren't all they could seemingly do is poke at the wires and laugh at us.
So the AT&T guy actually came in the house and the first thing he did was disconnect the phone in my mothers bedroom, noticed there was a DSL filter on it and then tried plugging it in without the filter.
...
those of you who are quick to pick up on irony will know what happened. The phones worked. Apparently the phones were not working because the DSL filter had gone bad.. but noone, not a single person we talked to on the phone suggested trying this. Not the DSL people, not the phone people, noone. We tried it with another phone, but it had no effect, so we thought: Eh, must not be it.
*sigh*
anyway, so eventually we just said 'screw you' and had them cancel the DSL service (they helpfully informed us, though that it had been canceled the day before... the day the other guy had said it should be working by). We have no signed up with Bright house cable (who provide Roadrunner internet) which turned out to be a great idea, because it's faster.. MUCH faster and for the same price.
so yeah, I'm back, happy and stuff^^
