After getting £150 in credit from selling about 20 games, I bought a silver slimline PS2.
It's great being a game man as you know exactly what the best games for every system are, even the ones you don't own!
I'm now playing Jak and Daxter, Final Fantasy X and Under the Skin (Panic Maker).
I also have WipEout Fusion (yes, I know), which is overrated but memories of 2097 forced my hand.
I have two questions.
1. The only games I now want are Ico, and Okami. What other games are worth getting for the system next?
2. Can I stand it vertically, or will it damage the discs? I asked two game shops, and one warned me that it would, definitely, break the system in 6 months and the other said to Google it.
I've decided to Moogle it. Anyone know? Will it damage the PS2?

While I have little experience with PS2's, I can at least let you know that I wrecked the CD-Rom drive on my old computer by having the thing stand sideways. After a while it would keep reading discs slower and slower, until eventually it would just fail to read anything.
So yeah, it's not recommended to set the thing sideways.

1. For the games, I reconmend getting Katamari Damacy(trust me, it is a must have if you own the system and it is only $20), Sly Copper and the Thevius Racoonus, Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, maybe look into the Ratchet and Clank games, Gradius V if you like shumps designed by Treasure, and maybe Disgaea, La Pucelle, and Phantom Brave if you like Nippon Ichi's power-leveling, wacky SRPGs.
In addition to waiting for Okami, I would also wait for Shadow of the Colossus, Everybody Loves Katamari, Dragon Quest VIII, and Grandia III.

I could have sworn I posted something in this topic.
Anyway, San Andreas.

And for the second question since proboard or Opera is being a bitch for not letting me edit my prvevious post.
When we first placed the PS2 vertically we didn't have and problem with it not reading any disc, but as time went on we got the dreaded "Dics Read Error". So we placed it horizontally and it works fine for the most part.

"I also have WipEout Fusion (yes, I know), which is overrated"
Overrated indeed, complete bile compared to the rest of the precious Wipeout games.

Fatal Frame and King's Field: The Ancient City.
... And I personally like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, but it is somewhat an acquired taste. Who wants to spend an hour leveling?...

Both Zone of the Enders games are worth a look in, if in anyway you like Anime or Giant Robots taking chunks out of one another. Absolutely brilliant pair of games, which will almost certainly be out on budget by now. Timesplitters: Future Perfect is a must, especially if you are ever going to be playing multiplayer. The Single player campign is nicely done, and the comedy element is brilliant. And there's loads of Multiplayer and Challenge modes. I'm not usually a fan of Console shooters, but TS is so good I don't care I haven't got a mouse/keyboard. Unless for some reason you HAVE to have it on PS2, if you want San Andreas wait for the PC version. With better controls/graphics, it'll look and play better, plus the PC verison is going to have full Mod support, so expect to see loads of extra content for it.

Ys: The Ark of Naphishtim is a wonderful action-RPG as long as you put in the code for the anime cutscenes and Japanese VA work. o.o; Most of the time I can tolerate the english VAs, but since the only good English VA in the game is that of the main character (who doesn't speak)... yeah. Japanese VAs all the way.
If you're a fighting game-tyoe person, Tekken 5 and KoF2002/2003 = must buy. Especially the latter because you get the second-best KoF game ever along with 2003 for only $40.
And... my old PS2's laser got owned by a friend who decided to "tinker" with it, but it used to work fine standing on end. So, it's semi-safe to stand it on end, I guess. Just don't let friends "tinker". D:

Japanese VAs all the way. I was going to buy Ys VI, there's a code for that? Cool. Didn't know they'd removed the cutscenes by default, though, that stinks. But the Japanese VA work is included... why hide something like that away? (Edit: Holy crud, there's way more cheat codes than I ever expected, and the amount of alteration and options they offer... three different overall modes? Crap, I've got to go get this game...) As for suggestions, I don't really have any unique ones off the top of my head. Jolly Joes literally named just about everything I can think of by default as an exemplary PS2 title. Wait... ah! No one's named God of War. Quite an epic game, the best comparison I can give is to Rygar. The presentation is flat-out Hollywood, pulled off really well, the realistic graphics are extremely impressive for the PS2, and the gameplay is accessible and enjoyable.

I was going to mention God of War, but I haven't played it and I had trouble editing my post. Bleh...
What about the Devil May Cry's(the second on exepted)?

A side note on that, if you're modding your PS2 anyway, I've heard the Japanese version of Devil May Cry 3 (I don't know if the European one is the same way or not) has a less-frustrating continue system compared to the US one, and I think still has the English voice acting.#nosmileys
