Speaking of stupid things to say, does anyone know the origin of the phrase "Gag me with a spoon?"

Duh, but why a spoon? Why me? Why gag? Because it was the 80's. A crazy time in human history when ripped jeans would run you $80 and Whitny Houstan was someone you could admire

Speaking of stupid things to say, does anyone know the origin of the phrase "Gag me with a spoon?" Well, the first time it was popularized was when Frank Zappa released "Valley Girl" on the "Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch" album. It was sung in part by his daughter Moon-Unit Zappa, in which she constantly parodied "valley girl" speech while Frank sang (angrily) about them. One of the things she said was "gag me with a spoon". Somehow the Zappas themselves popularized the phrase.
