I have verified the assertion that the initial 3 Star Wars movies are of a hardcore awesome quality that few forms of media reach, and that even the 3rd new movie, with its very cool action scenes, isn't within a light year (OH SPACE REFERENCE I AM THE CLEVEREST) of the originals.
Primary reasons: Dialogue, Humor, and Characters
That is all!
PS: Working full time sucks. A lot. In the face.

DIALOGUE. DEAR GOD. WHY DOESN'T ANYONE USE CONTRACTIONS?

I dunno, I found Episode 3 pretty fun.
The part where the droid kicked over R2D2 for zapping it made me chuckle, I laughed when Yoda "forced" those two guards on the side of the door away, and "NOOOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOOOOO" really did it for me as much as 80% of the Internet.

R2D2 sounded like GIR, screaming. I found that pretty amusing.
Episode III was just too shiny for me. And it just bugs me how they make us feel sorry for the Vaderman.

Oh, it still had its moments for sure (though "NOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooo" doesn't really count, as I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be a dramatic moment, not a groundbreaking moment in unintentional comedy ;>), but the original trilogy had so many more, along with good, non-cringe inducing dialogue with some really brilliant moments as well. Eric: 48 hours, working Saturday, waking up at 4:45 in the morning. Sucks. A lot.

If they had found someone else besides Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen to play the roles, I probably would have been more lenient on the movie.
Not to mention Palpatine overdid the evil bit, I think.

Because in Clone Wars, he looked more badass because everybody else looked so silly.

He was pretty bad-ass with the Quad-Lightsaber action, though. His death was a bit weird, though.
