Honestly, I got this game a bit ago for the PC after really wanting to try it out and improve my typing skill and speed, and let me tell you, it doesn't disappoint.
Most of all, it's FUN.
You know, FUN? That thing were you want to play the game again because it makes you have a good time? Well this game has it in spades.
For a start it takes off from House of the Dead 2 pretty well with some changes, along with guns being replaced with keyboards and Dreamcasts with oversized batteries strapped to character backs, it's been slightly neutered with zombie weapons like axes and knives being replaced with things like cooking utensils and folding fans (insert 4kids reference here) and that crawling jumping zombie with the metal shields is now a monkey. There are also different setups in how certain bosses work and there are extra "missions" segments in various parts of the levels where suddenly zombies rush at you and you either have to kill enough of them or hold them off for a set amount of time.
Other then that it's pretty similar to the first gmae, only instead of killing the zombies with a lightgun, you use a keyboard, desperately typing the phrases that appear under the respective zombie and only killing them when the typing is complete. This is frantic work that really pushes you to the limit, trying to remain cool and type fast and accurately while the zombies are just heading at you. Like any good game, you have this skill and the more you improve on the skill, the better you do and the more you progress. There also a tutorial mode where I discovered I had been typing some keys (such as 4 and 'c') with the wrong fingers, and between that and the Drill Mode, you can really improve on various aspects of typing (speed, accuracy) and for me, this also really helped improve special keys such as numbers and various special characters. Through all this my typing has really improved but even without that, it's just great to play this.
The game developers had fun with this game, almost too much fun actually. The phrases you have to type can be random, weird, mirthful, obscure references, huh? factor, occasionally fustrating (you just know they're trying to trip you up) and just bizare. Some I noted were "That day", "Your mom", "beautiful friendship" and way, way more to count. I've also clearly determined that at least one guy on the team was English, as I've noticed "billions of pounds", "chips with everything" and "Smeghead", proving he's a Red Dwarf fan. I just know there's tons more phrases yet to come.
Well, enough of blather, screenshot time!
