I'm only asking this because I've just today heard some really bizarre things about it.I had no interest in this film before, but the film seems to be completely unlike what the trailers would fool you into thinking it is. Cute little dancing penguins? Apparently, there's a lot more to it, and it sounds pretty disturbing. Just curious if anyone here was dragged to see it and noticed any of this too.

I saw it...
it is one of the most visually stunning movies of all time.
the rest of it... eh.
It's like they have too many messages going in too many directions. Good messages, don't get me wrong. About environmentalism, racial equality, about being different, with a definite dose of anti-establishment sympathy. But in the end? It just doesn't work. It feels like it alternately hammers you on the head with whichever message it's trying to convey at that one moment and then seems to go off in a totally different direction the next moment.
I would say it's worth seeing at least once, just because it's a beautiful move and has some good things to say. There are some great bits with Robin Williams, but nothing you wouldn't have seen in one of his stand-up bits. Elijah Wood does a great job in the lead role. Also notable because Steve Irwin does a voice for it, though I didn't recognize him until the credits.
I probably wouldn't go back to see it in theaters, and I more than likely wouldn't buy the DVD until it is on sale.
Also.. tap-dancing penguins aren't as wonderful as you might expect... if you've ever seen Mary Poppins, you might know what to expect. One word: awkward.

I personally thought the film looked ugly and too realistic judging from the trailers, but I guess seeing it on the big screen would make some difference. I'm not paying to see it on the big screen though, I'll just wait for a DVD rental, just out of curiosity.

It just looks too ridiculous to be worth my very tight checkbook.
Same with the next one about surfing penguins that's BASED ON A TRUE STORY.

I’m not going to see it, anyway. Its not really my type of movie. Through it does visually good. I’ve noticed every month now, there has been a (CGI) movie about talking cute talking animals. Guess when one does something they all do it.

Wow, Warner does it again by advertising the game for what it is NOT. Just like the Powerpuff Girls, totally not something you would expect.
The previews made the movie look annoying, stupidly cute and so forth. Now I feel I should see the movie...

I had fun watching it.
The key to avoiding a headache induced by the hot potato messages is to ignore every single one of them and just watch it as a movie about penguins doing silly things.
EDIT AFTER READING LINK: The movie didn't trigger my athevangelism sense at all. They played it more as a case of "omfgTRADITION!!1".

The DS game has a rhythm segment that's a fairly apparent ripoff of EBA/Ouendan.
