A pretty odd question that's kind of hard to describe, but does anyone here have any idea if there is a way to run NTSC stuff (such as DVD's, games etc) to at 50Hz on a PAL TV, rather than the usual 60Hz?
I ask this because I've been ripping lots of footage from my TV onto my Archos 500 (a music/video portable hard drive thingy), but it doesn't like anything in 60Hz, playing it in different colours, with no sound and with some of the top of the screen at the bottom all jumbled. I tried changing the settings on the Archos 500 to NTSC but it didn't make a difference. Maybe it'll work on another TV of some kind?

You can use a conversion box, and it will basically cut out every sixth frame, However, if you want the game system to run at 50 Hz, you'll probably be out of luck. Some consoles may be able to do it via a mod chip, but again, I'm not sure if it will actually reduce the game logic to 50 Hz.

... I think most modern PAL tvs can decode both. Just lug around an NTSC device and insist trying it when you go to buy a tv XD.
Getting a PAL compatable TV here is pretty much impossible. Cheapasses.

If a uk tv does not alow 60hz you will most probably get a black and white image, but the image is still shown.

Yeah, the TVs in my house can all run 60hz, it's just this video portable thing that can't.
