We got the news in at about 4PM today. Terribly terribly unfortunate twist of fate...he died trying to save his family, unaware that they were found safe. CNET StoryHe was one of the premier technology journalists in Silicon Valley. Too many times bad things happen to good individuals like he. That's all the opinion I can muster myself to say at the moment. -T

Man, that's a bummer. I was really pulling for him being alive, though... once they found his pants I kind of started to lose hope. Who takes off their pants in the middle of a snowstorm? Not gonna keep you very warm, and warmth is kind of... the key.
May he rest in peace.

This is pretty unfortunate. I've been following the news throughout this week and.. well. I was kind of sure this would happen when the rest of his family was found, but I still had a glitter of hope.
May he RIP.

Read about it. Didn't ever really follow CNET or anything, but I heard about it this on the radio before heading on the bus this morning. Well, about his pants. Sad to see anyone go in any case whatsoever, though--and even if he died, he died a MAN. In the wilderness, trying to save his family.

Yeah, this is almost literally in my back yard. I'm familiar with the road in question. It's a real scourge. It certainly isn't the first time that someone has gotten stuck on it. The problem is that, on a map, it looks like the shortest route to the coast. However, it's primarily a logging road. It goes up into the mountains, and it is not paved the whole way. And since the ground is covered with snow, if you don't know exactly where the road goes, you can end up driving around all over the mountain, easily losing the road. I simply have no idea why it's open during the winter. Man, that's a bummer. I was really pulling for him being alive, though... once they found his pants I kind of started to lose hope. Who takes off their pants in the middle of a snowstorm? Not gonna keep you very warm, and warmth is kind of... the key. Those were later determined to not be his. He was found with his pants, and barely alive. However, they couldn't get him out before he succumbed to death.

That's a shame. I hadn't heard about this until just now... I don't remember him from TechTV, but it sucks anyway, and for someone who was a tech geek to manage what he did, wow.

Essentially the body gets SO cold that the person feels unbearably hot, thus in their altered state of mind, they undress, making the situation that much worse. Anyway, sad news, though I haven't watched CNET (Tech TV, G4, whatever...) in a long time.

Geez, this makes this terrible news even worse. =(
The only silver lining is that they rest of his family have been saved, but those poor children would hardly remember about their father. =(
