Parents these days.Mother has kid, 12, nabbed after Nintendo Game Boy is unwrapped
DECEMBER 5--A South Carolina boy, 12, was arrested Sunday morning after his mother called police to report that he had unwrapped a Christmas present without her permission. According to a Rock Hill Police Department report (a copy of which you'll find below), the child opened a Nintendo Game Boy, though he had been directed not to by family members. When the boy's mother learned that the $85 gift had been opened, she called cops, who charged the juvenile with petty larceny. In an interview with The Herald newspaper, the boy's mother, a 27-year-old single parent, described her son as a disruptive child, noting that she hoped his arrest would serve as a corrective to disorderly behavior at school and home. (2 pages) The article has full documentation: "Play station Game Boy" Yeah I said CHRISTMAS

I posted this on another forum I go to. The majority of the replies went like this: "Not only did he get arrested, but he got a shitty GBA to boot"

Wow, that's mildly extreme to say the least.

I find it interesting that the police would have even bothered with such a call... unless Rock Hill is just another Small Town, USA where the police have nothing better to do?

"Now look here, Jimmy... This is your Christmas present... and it's still a good month before Christmas! I'll put it right here, but don't you go opening it, okay?"

This... I... wha...?
If she wanted to teach the child a lesson, she could at least have chosen something less absurd. Like, you know, the next time he beats someone up at school, then call the police on him.
People.. people are stupid sometimes.

I heard this on the radio this morning. I hate parents as much as I hate the kids themselves. >

That parent needs to be smacked in the head and the kids given to somebody who's less retarded. >

y'all suck he had it coming :-O really, I mean, he apparently was already in trouble for assaulting a police officer and was kicked out of school. Would you prefer the parent just slapped the kid around a few times? I'm siding with her, hopefully this will get get the kid to calm down. As far as I care, if you can't wait until Christmas, you don't deserve your present, natch.

Wait... she's 27 and the kid is 12? That means she got the kid at... 15

Yeah, that was noticed pretty quick at the Allspark. I shall react the same way here that I did there:

As far as I care, if you can't wait until Christmas, you don't deserve your present, natch. So why wasn't he arrested when he assaulted the police officer? Assault is a more serious crime that a quasi-theft (I mean, it was his Christmas present, after all). It seems to me that this was an impulsive, if not vindictive act that the parent is now rationalizing as a way of teaching the child a lesson. Given she had the child so young, it is more than likely she's in no way suited to having a child, and it is probable that the reason this child is this way in the first place is poor parenting, combined with inherited stupidity. Simply put: Stupid parent = stupid child = stupid situations They both need to be filtered out by natural selection some how.

The fact that the police bothered with such a ridiculous thing is what I'd like to know.
