Right, so. Being that the past year is the first time in my life I've actually had long hair, I'm kind of confused as far as the proper care and feeding of my hair goes. So, lately, when I'm washing my hair, I've noticed that the stuff has knots-- lots and lots of knots. In fact, entire clumps seem to be irrevocably stuck together from almost opposite sides of my head, until after washing my hair and applying the +1 masterwork Brush to my locks.
It's quite problematic. Can I get rid of this vexing stuff? I'd rather not trim my hair, for the personal reason that it's an accurate measure of how long I've been out of high school. My mom says conditioner helps a lot. Anything else I can do?

Whenever I had to deal with my hair tangling up, I always used Pert Plus whenever I took a shower. Granted, the fact that it's a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner helps out a lot.
Now, I still use it. I may not have long hair anymore, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth using anymore.

let your hair grow longer and longer as an expression of the rock in your heart and the metal in your soul. Then stand tall and let it blow in the wind majestically as you wail on a guitar.
Anyway.
I don't know what I'm talking about, but personally I recommend, after washing your hair, don't blowdry. That's dumb, let your hair absorb the moisture so it all becomes soft and you can dramatically flick it.
Pert Plus is pretty much the best bet as far as hair care products go. Really, anything that comes in a similarly colored bottle will be close enough. Except 7 up.
Right, the knots. get a hairbrush with a soft-bottom and just make many quick brushes, starting in the center of the brush. You should end up with a ton of hair on the brush (it's cool, it's all dead). if you don't have a soft-bottom brush, then just make sure to hold your hair so you aren't pulling it out of your head.
Also, cut your hair short at the front. The dames are all over that.

I use me some pantine pro V 2-in-1 shampoo, with some pantine pro-v Conditioner, after that. I dont really get knots or tangles (and I have really thick hair) So I guess that must be the reason? !

pantine is for people who wear panties. I didnt know I was still in elementary school, and the type of shampoo I use depends on what gender I am.

One of the resident girls with long hair here...
I use Pantene's 'Smooth & Sleek' conditioner, and it works really well (actually, I use a generic lately--Target's generic s better than Wal-Marts, by-the-way).
The other thing you might try is having a wide-toothed comb you keep in the shower. When you use the conditioner, or even after shampooing, try combing out your hair to work out the knots before you get out of the shower. Works well for me, and my hair reaches about my mid-back.

I just wash my hair daily. Seems to loosen up the knots. Also while you wash it run your fingers through it to help pull it apart, but not too hard, unless you like pain and bald patches.
I hate knots. I remember I once ripped out a bunch of hairs once by accident because of them.

Just comb your hair after you wash it. Tying it back while you sleep helps as well.

Ow, sleeping with a ponytail hurts, though.

If you tie it low on your neck it fits into the groove nicely
Or you could sleep with your head to the side like a normal person

I've found that it doesn't matter what the hell I use on my hair or do to it afterwards (Other than, y'know, tying it in knots. That gives me knots every time) as long as some form of conditioner is used afterwards.
