OKay, last night I had my Wii connected perfectly and was sending messages and everything.
Today, I tried to connect to the shop and it sat on the connecting screen forever. I made sure my USB was working properly. I even unplugged it and plugged it back in.
So, I connected my DS to make sure the connection was okay. I went into WiFi with Starfox and the computer said that a user was connected but no bars showed up on the DS. Eventually it "disconnected". So, I went into settings to test the connection.
This is the weird part... It would connect fine, bars and everything, then just disconnect and say that it couldn't establish an IP. So, do any of you know what's up?

I have similar problems... my Wii's wifi won't work for crap. XD Wiimails (ha-ha!) take forever to send/arrive, the wii shop won't connect, etc... I've been hearing lots of complaints around Gamefaqs and stuff about it too. I think maybe the Wii's wifi is just really shitty for some reason. I wish I knew whyyy..

Well, is it possible all of this is due to Nintendo's services in general being totally overloaded?

Yeah, I figure it's all the kids gettin' Wiis and getting online with them killing the servers :[ The same thing happened back when Mario Kart DS first came out.

I've never had this problem with my own setup....
but I DID have something similar trying to connect to a friend's setup.
Could it be ISP/Rouer brand related?

According to nintendowifi.com: ██ Global Wi-Fi Gaming Service Fully Operational It could be "fully operational" and still at maximum capacity. That's not mututally exclusive.

Last time it was at max capacity it was "experiencing intermittent problems" or something--back when Mario Kart DS came about.

I remember several times after MKDS came out where it said it was just dandy yet I couldn't connect.

Nintendo says set your router channel to 1 or 11.

I'll set your router to 1 or 11.
(Actually that worked although to be fair that error wasn't the same one I usually get)

You're using the wrong thing. It should be "Wii-Fii"

Yeah, changing the channel to 11 fixed me up good I can actually access the shop channel now! ... And as a side effect, my mom's wireless internet sped up dramatically on her laptop. Crazy madness.

Yes, I had an error too, and switching to channel 11 worked fine.

While, I did fix it, I didn't switch any settings. I just had to put my Wii on the floor. I think that from the entertainment center, the USB thing can't pick up a signal due to blocking from the walls and shelves.
I don't like putting it on the floor, though. It makes me feel like it's getting dirty. Plus, I have a million dogs who are liable to knock it down while they're wrestling.

So hay Can I just connect my Wii with a wire to my non-wireless router instead? I think I'd prefer that muchly
Also, doing so, will it cause the Wii to act as a Wifi connection spot for my DS (since the USB dongle ain't working AT ALL for me)?

Nintendo has announced an as-of-yet unreleased Ethernet-USB kit for the Wii. However, there is no word on whether or not that would allow the DS to connect to the Internet through the Wii (my guess is no).

But then again, the connectivity is probably local only... So yeah... probably not.

I believe Nintenod once said the Wii could act as an access point for the DS, but that was a loooong time ago.
