It's nice to see box art that leaves something to the imagination, really makes you curious.

I grabbed a copy today while I was out, kind of a bummer that I had to get a shelf copy, but I didn't want to chance missing another Atlus release, I've already heard supplies for this one were pretty low.

Amazon says it comes out on Tuesday. Odd.
I should pick this up, but I've been spending a lot recently. I'll just have to hold out for FFIII.

Think about it this way: There'll be plenty of copies of FFIII available for months afterward. This is an Atlus game, though, and they go with EXTREMELY small print runs.

Yeah, but I already preordered FFIII months ago.
PS: I was able to get Disgaea at a Gamestop with much trouble.

Yeah, but I already preordered FFIII months ago. PS: I was able to get Disgaea at a Gamestop with much trouble. That's because Disgaea has been recently reprinted(and I think from a different company also) and it is easier/cheaper to reprint a disc-based game than a card-based one. Atlus is notorious for printing a limited amount of games for sale. I mean I wanted to pick up Steamboat Chronicles at TRU for the sale, but they didn't have it(just the display boxes -_-). They also didn't have Devil Summoner either(boo!). Anyway, about Contact, I'm only near the begining of the game and it seems nice so far. It has some seeds of the quirky Mother/Earthbound humor(complete with fourth wall breaking) and it even ask you some random questions about yourself before you begin the game just like Mother. The manual is also amusing as it is done in the same style as Livejournal--complete with moods. There is also some odd clash of the art-design. The top screen features the scientist and his space dog who needs your help and helps you which resembles the simplistic, cartoon-like Mother's design. There there is Terry's(the hero) pre-rendered, comples world that is on the bottom screen. The odd part is when Terry enters the room with the professor, and he looks out of place--like Eddie Valence in Toontown. The combat sort of reminds me of a Korean MMORPG in which you touch the enemies to go automatically into battle mode, though you can still move around to avoid their attacks. The stat building system is more akin to Elder Scrolls and the SaGa series in which you gain certain stats doing actions assigned to the stats. For exmaple: running increases you movement speed stats, punching increases your punching stat, which would allow you to gain new puching techs and increases your punch power, getting hit increases you HP-stat and defense stat, and so on. I haven't gotten any costumes of even know the full gist of the decals--as I said, I'm really early in the game. But I like it so far.

No, actually, this was about two years ago.
...but yeah, I should get this game. I think I told my SF:C-obsessed friend to get this before it became hard to find already, so...
(PS: It's Eddie Valiant)

Played a little past the first island and onto the second (well, a side trip). This really reminds me of some of the different stuff that came out in the 16-bit era, in terms of unique thoughts and designs thrown at you. Japan probably sees more of this type of thing than the US, so it's refreshing to not get something quite so homogenized in the US for once.
D-Pad + Touch Screen works very well, you can use either based on your preference or mindset, it's not like Animal Crossing which required you to "activate" one or the other each time. Sometimes there's some issue tapping things near Terry's big menu hitbox, but usually walking just a little away will do the trick.
Still getting used to the mechanics, but you seem to power up very quickly. The Professor is amusing, but repeats his comments a little too often. And the game's a little funny about time, for example, while Terry sleeps (saving, which takes a while), you can play with Mochi to boost his mood, but it took me three or so saves before I thought to touch the alarm clock early to speed things along. Also, travelling between islands takes time, no question about it. Don't know if you'll get the option to speed that up later or anything.
Oh, by the way, I've read that "The End" may not be so if you stare at it for 5 minutes. I'm not sure what that'll change, but I've just read that, so fair warning. (I don't think it spoils anything to say that.)

Hmm, I'm not much of an RPG fan, but I do like the unique ones. I might have the check this out.

...So is this the DS' equivilant to mother?
If so, this could prove to be interesting.

Well, to give one example, you can walk around killing people. Even kids. Any non-important (quest) NPC. Does wonders for your karma.
And the "Mother" comparison seems very adept, given the installments I've been finding doing this called "Blue Eyes" (I'm not sure if you'd get these by killing beasts...)

That's funny - I submitted that alternate release date to GameFAQs this morning, and now suddenly I see "February 2007".
