I can likely get ahold of a backup SNES to cannibalize, but...
Basically, I'm pretty sure the video won't display right anyway, but I want to play the Sparkster game H sent me. To do that, I need either a converter (like those're easy to find PAL to NTSC. NTSC to PAL, sure!) or remove pin 4 from the SNES's board. I am TOTALLY not comfortable doing this.
Anyone pretty confident they can do it?
I was thinking of doing it to my icky-looking SNES with the shaved tabs, but then I'd have to use the Game Genie if it blew up =(...
Edit-editly: While I'd be able to run the video through the capture card and thus be able to play THAT way, it'd be more sensible to just get the thing dumped. Any volunteers? I'll, uh, give you $5?

Are you talking about running a PAL game on an NTSC console? Even if you bypass the checking components, I'm not completely sure what that might do to the game itself. I assume the console electronically cannot do PAL, so it'll still try NTSC, but... after that, I don't know.

Well, I have tried running PAL N64 games via a 'converter' that was more of a passthrough. The video was fugged up something awful, but they did technically work. It's supposed to be the same for the SNES. The TV we have now WILL display, albeit in BW for some... reason. At least, that was how the PAL PS game worked.
Or if anyone here happens to have the means to dump the ROM and then gimmie the cart back. Even if I can't run it, it's a curiousity, dude. And a present >_< so thar.

I was just curious. It sounds like a lot of work. No ROM exists for this title already?

Well, it's that Sparkster 'demo' cart. H couldn't get it dumped, so nooobody knoooows. It apparantly plays the same, at least in his opinion =P. So I know not!

NTSC and PAL encode colors differently, so any NTSC TV will play PAL video, but black and white because it can't understand the PAL color encoding. The size of the game and the frame rate will also be messed up. Even if you remove the pins, you won't get the genuine experience. You're going to need a PAL SNES and TV.
However, emulators do work with PAL games, so I would try to get it dumped.

Yeah, I just don't think anyone here has the equipment to dump it. If someone does, come forward or I bite you.
Bwaa haa haa. At least this TV displays anything. Beats the other one, which had no horizontal hold. It rendered some colors, but was completely freakin' useless...

XD
It's still a neat oddity, but I would prefer to actually try it myself, being I have the final NTSC version of the game. We loves the possums we do!
