So I rented The Fox and the Hound, a movie I haven't seen in ages, but a pretty good, if not a sad and dark movie, and after the features, I decided to check out the sneak peak trailers on what Disney is cooking up lately. The first clip I decide to check out was simply titled Tinkerbell and it was a teaser for what I'm assuming a direct-to-DVD GCI featurette based on the Tinkerbell franchise that appeals to 5-8 year old girls. Eh... The second is...well, I am saddened to say is Cinderella III: A Twist in Time...III!?! It's already bad enough that they made a Cinderella II. The animation has the same cheap TV toon movie quality like the majority of these cheapquels, and the plotline seems like a really big WTF!?! Apparently, Cinderella's evil stepmother got a hold of her Fairy Godmother's wand(WTF!?!) and she uses to turn back time preventing Cinderella meeting her Godmother, the prince, and living happily ever after.(WTF!?!) Basically she's undoing the story of Cinderella. It's that stupid. Oh hey, here's a youtube clip to see what I mean(and it seems like Blaze has already known about this too--based on the comments there): www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZZCBwyTo_AThe last trailer I decided to check out was a preview for some Disney Princess direct-to-DVD movie. Basically it was sacchirine drivel for 4-7 years old girls on how to be kind to others even without encounting any conflict of any kind. Bleh. There is better stuff for little girls than the Disney Princess series. And speaking of the Disney Princess, why is Belle considered a princess? I mean, she was just a commoner and she didn't become a noblewoman until the Beast turned into a human and married her. But in these Princess stories, the Beast is still a beast. And how come Kiva from Atlantis isn't included in this franchise? I mean she's actually a princess, unlike Belle. Maybe she's not "cute and marketable" enough for young girls? =P

Atlantis bombed, that's why. :P
Kingdom Hearts came up with the explanation that some where just "Princesses of the Heart," explaining why Alice from Alice in Wonderland was included. Probably the same thing.
Have a feeling I'm going to cringe that the trailer you linked. The Fox & the Hound 2 one was bad enough as it is. And it's funny that CIII: Armageddon has the same plot as another Disney movie coming out, The Santa Clause 3. And technically Lion King 1 1/2, which was the "3" of the franchise, sort of rewrote and filled in events and motivations of the first movie. Geez, is that like a Disney rule?

Aladdin and the king of thieves was completley original... They were the exception. In fact, I think they're the ones who started the whole sequel business off to begin with.

So Walt Disney, entertainer for the whole family, has 3 new projects, one for little girls, one for little girls and one for.. LITTLE GIRLS! Wow. Guess together with soccermoms who no doubt enjoy the next 3 movies as well, they're the ony audience who's brain do not melt by the painfull cheesy sentiment of recent "Disney classics" eh? Thanks to Disney I don't even know the meaning of the word "classic" anymore.

There's also a shojo manga coming out from TokyoPOP that's about a girl who travels worlds and gets help from the Disney princesses. They have a small preview of it in the Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories manga that came out recently.
With the small exception of some movies, Disney really has gone downhill since The Lion King. There are a few exceptions, like Hercules, Pirates of the Carribean and Kingdom Hearts, but they're now just spewing out crap. Their entire business is now just churning out sequel after sequel, relying entirely on the name recognition of their products.
Hell, I can't even go into a Disney Store anymore. The one at Mall of America is now like a Wal-Mart, with little kid stuff and products based off thier cheapquels.
The best bet is just to ignore the new crap coming out and look back at when Disney would actually bother with coming up with a new story and cast.

Atlantis bombed, that's why. :P Kingdom Hearts came up with the explanation that some where just "Princesses of the Heart," explaining why Alice from Alice in Wonderland was included. Probably the same thing. Funny thing is, Ariel isn't a Princess of the Heart in KH. I guess S-E, unlike Disney actually remembers that she didn't have a good and pure heart in the original movie. Oh crud, I forgot they made a Fox & the Hound 2. Let's see what Wiki has to say what was it about? ...WTF!? XD The setting and tone of this sequel is far, far removed from the original. XD Aladdin and the king of thieves was completley original... They were the exception. In fact, I think they're the ones who started the whole sequel business off to begin with. Well, Rescuers Down Under predates the first Aladdin sequel several years and it's still the best dang sequel Disney ever made. But yeah, Aladdin 2(which sucked) kicked started this cheapquel crud and it's getting worse. XP So Walt Disney, entertainer for the whole family, has 3 new projects, one for little girls, one for little girls and one for.. I'm assuming girls are Disney's biggest market which could also explain the large presence of live-action vs. the shrinking presence of cartoons on the Disney Channel. And "soccermoms" aren't the ones watching this pap, but do give in to buying this crud after their daughters beg and beg to watch it because they want to be a Disney Princess also. I would extend that exception list to: Lilo and Stitch(the movie, not that lame TV series) The Emperor's New Groove Kim Possible Mickey Mouseworks/House of Mouse ...And I would say W.I.T.C.H. if Disney actually treated the series better. =P ...however... The best bet is just to ignore the new crap coming out and look back at when Disney would actually bother with coming up with a new story and cast. HELLZ NO! No when John Lasseter is Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Feature Animation. There is still hope!

Yeah, somebody at Penny-Arcade posted a link to it a week ago. It's just... unfathomable. When the announcer says "Cinderella... THREE!" something inside of me shriveled up and died.

WITCH really is the current whipping girl for them. It could have been a success but they totally failed to do anything at all with it. But thats OK since the comic is like 500% better anyways. I don't even know why the cartoon had to dumb everything down and shoehorn in characters who weren't major or didn't even exist. And they made some really odd changes such as removing the girls psychic powers, having no goddamn clue what Will is supposed to have for powers, and having all the girls be able to fly as opposed to only Hay Lin since she can control wind currents. (Though they did get all the powers in Season 2.)
Oh yeah and Cinderella 3 is retarded. Eventually they will run out of ideas and HAVE to give us Song of the South 2.

According to an article on Jim Hill Media (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2006/10/04/6032.aspx), Disney are actually starting to close down production of the cheapquels, with only a few left to release that are too far into production to kill off: Fox and the Hound 2, Cinders 3, and Little Mermaid 3. After that, while there will still be Princess and the upcoming fairies series of CGI video movies, Disney want to get out of the sequel bussiness, although the video features do make up for a big chunk of their current income, so we might see spin offs of other kinds, instead.

...Little Mermaid 3? Holy crap.
I did enjoy Return of Jafar, though. Didn't like King of Thieves because it shut the door on the animated series, and they basically had to delay and redo parts of the movie because they convinced Robin Williams to do the Genie voice (and thus had to reanimate scenes to fit his adlibbing), while ditching the track Dan Castellaneta had completely recorded (and probably his royalties).

Hopefully, The little Mermaid 3 and Cinderella 3 are the final cheapquels that are realesed. NEW!Disney have a long road ahead of them to rebuilding the brand to quality, though. WITCH really is the current whipping girl for them. It could have been a success but they totally failed to do anything at all with it. But thats OK since the comic is like 500% better anyways. It would be great if Disney actually knew how to treat the comics better also. =P I mean the U.S. release of the books are just 4-6 pages of comics and 160+ pages of written text. They are supposed to be comics, stupid! =P I'm still waiting for the inevitable Kingdom Hearts movie(s) I'm suprised they havn't done it yet though. Actually, a KH series was actually in production. They even had some preliminary animation featuring Sora(in a supposedly more Westernized-Disney look), Donald, and Goofy fighting Heartless. However, the heads of Disney at the time rejected the idea because--get this, they were against the idea of Donald and Goofy fighting. ...WTF!?! Have they actually heard of Kingdom Hearts?! Hell, have they actually seen any 30's -50's theatrical animation that featured those two!? Jeez, Disney really dropped the ball on that one.

Is this prelim animation available anywhere, or has it only been related by word of mouth?

Goofy I could understand.. but Donald? Have they even seen their own cartoons? Donald is a violent little psychopath. He gets mad and things get broken. I remember countless cartoons where Donald's gets pissed off at someone or thing and goes into a blind rage and tries to beat it up. He's a SAILOR for Pete's sake! That was his shtick!
*sighs* this family-friendly attitude has gone too far.
More on topic though, I lost my faith in Disney quite a while ago.. I don't remember exactly which horrible sequel it was (Little Mermaid II, maybe, or Cinderella II, one of them), but I saw the movie on the shelf and had one of those moments, you know the kind, when you remember something you always loved when you were a kid and suddenly realize it will never be the same again.
Yeah. Stupid Disney. Although, I have have liked some of their more recent CG movies, but I don't know how much of that was directly under their control.

Well with that one I can understand.. politically incorrect and all. It's more than a little offensive now that the war is over ;D
No, what I was thinking about was the more just generally slap stick ones. I remember many toons in which Donald's nephews would cause some sort of trouble or pull some prank on Donald and it would result in him going berserk and chasing them down and beating them, in a highly silly cartoon slapstick way (dust cloud, crazy blurry animation, etc), but still. Not that that ever mattered.. I still laughed all the same. XD

And yet Disney released them on DVD anyway, unlike Song of the South. Also, I remember this Donald Duck cartoon where Donald forces his nephews to smoke some cigars they bought only to find out in the end that they were a gift for his birthday. He felt like a total ass and he literally shrinks while his nephews are on the floor, passed out.

Ooh! I remember that one! Actually, that was a pretty good one XD I liked the bit with the nephews having to sneak the money he was making them save out so they could buy that. Well.. I mean it was funny..
at the time..
Now it seems kinda demented..
...
Still funny though >.>
