Your aunt and grandma are the ones who like to go to anime conventions.. Wow.I am shocked, in awe, slightly amused in a good way of your family, Keith.
Anyway, as for the black shirt(s), while I most certainly won't diss Goodwill or thrift stores (I got one of my favorite ties at a Goodwill, in fact.), I'd still recommend trying Express, Old Navy, and L.L. Bean. Plain, long-sleeved t-shirts aren't too expensive, probably about $20 tops, and considering how long sleeves are currently out-of-season, you could probably get them at an even better sale price.
Mwehehe.. we are a loony bunch, I'll tell ya. I love 'em, and wouldn't trade 'em for the world.
Yeah, you might think it odd, but our family.. we don't really grow up entirely.. we keep that youth at heart that lets us still enjoy things like this. I think even my mother would love it, if she had the time to go. She loves large crowds and social situations, and I think she'd just love all the costumes XD Even if she had no clue who any of them were!
And, frankly, neither do I. I don't care that much for anime (MCers: GASP!!), except for the manga art-style, but there's something fun about going amongst a group of people who won't bat an eye at the fact you're wearing a huge yellow hat, a ridiculous blue robe and a mask to hide your face. In fact, most of them are dressed up in even more inexplicable get-ups.
That and I love costumes.. really! I miss getting to dress up and going trick-or-treating for Halloween XD Being twenty-four bites sometimes.
Anyway, I'm rambleing... damn old age!
I'll take your suggestion! That is, if I don't already have one.. I recall having a long-sleeved, black shirt, although I'll be damned if I know were it is now....
