The faster the CPU is, the more electricity is required to run it. Electricity is heat. Therefore, the faster the CPU is, the more heat it generates. This is why when you buy new processors for your PC, generally it's a good idea to get a new interal fan/heatsink for it, or look into an alternative cooling source (water cooling, etc). Hehe...that's funny... Doesn't quite work that way, Blaze =P Plus, I don't think Sony's dumb enough to release a console that's so expensive, no-one will buy it. Demons. The demon's computers in the bowels of hell suck, so they come up to the human world and screw with ours.

900$...
The game industry will be digging it's own grave if that's true, and I will simply point and laugh all the way to it's demise.
Sorry, but I'm not investing over 300$ for a console until I have a steady job, and anything over 400$ is just... excessive.

Where does it say it'll be $900?

In the PDF, first page, second paragraph.
"Our updated analysis indicates that the initial bill of materials for PS3 could approach $900, falling to $320 three years from launch."

Hm, that means it'll cost them $900. Not us. They went in the red selling PS2s back at launch. They'll probably sell them for $400-$500 in limited quantities like the PS2, Xbox 360, PSP and the DS.

900$... The game industry will be digging it's own grave if that's true, and I will simply point and laugh all the way to it's demise. Why would game industry be in trouble because of Sony's problem? Many developers would just move towards MS's and Nintendo's consoles if people aren't buying Sony's console. Simple as that.

Then explain to me, o great master, why do powerful processors heat up? =P First of all, electricity isn't heat. Sure, electricity tends to be converted into heat, but that's not necessarily because the device is powerful. If you've ever noticed, the power converter on a device often tends to heat up a lot, often more than the device itself. Also, just because it's more powerful doesn't mean it needs to sap up more energy. All you have to do is use it efficiently.

Oni, if the clock speed of a device increases or a device gains a greater density of transistors (both of which fit the definition of a "more powerful" device), then assuming all other variables remain the same, the device will inevitable generate more heat. They are fundamental concepts that chip designers have been battling against in their quest to create cheaper, smaller and more powerful chips.

Yes, but I don't think that Sony would put a high-power consuming processor in a HANDHELD. It might still have a high processing speed (although most likely not as high as, say, an Alienware computer), but it will use less energy and thus give off less heat.
