Wow... Well, a well-deserved 1,000$! I guess congratulations are in order!

Shit. Somebody's trying to get in to my Gametrailers account, it would seem. I have two new PMs in my GT Account, opening them results in "HACKING ATTEMPT RECORDED".
Chances are, it's somebody within the Sonic community - outside of this topic here, and the Penny Arcade Chat Thread (which moves so fast the announcement of my winning is long gone), the official announcement from Gametrailers has not yet been made.

Change your password to a really hard to remember combo of letters and numbers for the time being. Scribble down the hodgepodge of a password somewhere.

You might also bring this up to the person who e-mailed you about winning the contest.
(And you are sure that's the right person, right?)

I already posted about it on the GT Forums. Tried changing my password, unfortunate I cannot seem to remember what it was, and I'm afraid if I take the time to try all the various passwords I use for different things, it'll look suspicious. You might also bring this up to the person who e-mailed you about winning the contest. (And you are sure that's the right person, right?) Well, the person who sent the emails confirming that I won didn't ask for my Gametrailers password or anything. Just my home address. And... er... social security number. BUT. The notification DID come on the date listed in the contest rules and so far, nobody else has spoken up about winning the contest on the GT forums (I haven't even mentioned it there yet, save for in the post about getting those PMs).

Good. And doesn't GT have a Password Recall feature? Lost Password or whatever? Use that, get it, and change it quickly to something else (and as Blues said, write it down on paper and save a seperate copy on your computer, so if you lose one, you still have the other).

Apparently, the person named Cross-slash had a similar problem a week ago and no real answers to help...

What the hell?
10 months of email vanished overnight from my MSN account.
Changed my password there, too...
Already did a virus scan yesterday after the Gametrailers incident. Found a single trojan, but it my virus scanner detects some adware, too, which I think is what it found.

The price of stardom, and pricks who want your prize. :/ Sorry, man.

I am such a retard.
Before I signed off last night I was messing with my email - I sorted my "Saved Email Messages" by date. I guess somehow this applied to my main inbox. I was actually viewing the oldest email first.
Whew.

On a slightly less amusing note, that retard just tried again to get into my Gametrailers account, presumably using the exact same method he tried before.

I'm a little confused. It's been confirmed that you were the winner right? And have you been given details of receiving your prize?

It went like this:
- A woman, whom I presume is the host of GT Weekly (I never watch it) contacted me to verify my email address.
- Once my email address was verified, she congratulated me on winning the contest and gave me a .doc file. Similar to the procedure to claim that copy of Perfect Dark Zero I won, I had to print out the file, read it over, sign it, and fax it to their offices. The document contained legal mumbo-jumbo about what I can and cannot do with the prize (I can't, for example, exchange it directly for cash), and that I allow them rights to print my name, voice, and likeness whenever and however they choose. You know, that sort of thing. I believe it said I would recieve the prize on or before the end of the month.
- And, er. That's kind of been it. I thanked them, and haven't gotten a response back. No confirmation that they recieved the fax (which I should really double check on, now that I think about it), or anything. Apparently somebody on the GT Forums emailed the GT Staff and they said the winner would be announced - alone, seperately from the rest of the entrants - on Tuesday, and that the episode of GT Weekly that was supposed to air last week (on the 23rd) had been delayed until later this week.
- Since then, somebody has been trying to get in to my Gametrailers account, undoubtedly to try and claim the prize as their own. Not many people know I've won yet, including most people who visit Gametrailers (I'm not actually sure if I should talk about it early), so the suspects either read The Moogle Cavern, was in #srb2 at the time I told them, or managed to catch a fleeting glimpse of the "Hey guys I won" mention I made in the Penny-Arcade G&T chat thread (which, as I have mentioned, moves so fast, you have maybe a 30 minute window before it's buried under 5 pages of posts).
- The GT Staff is remarkably quiet on the whole hacking matter, but I almost wonder if they're quiet simply so the hacker doesn't know if he's being tracked or not.

Maybe they don't know you won, but are rather just trying to hack into the accounts of some of the people who had fairly high scoring videos.

Possibly, but nobody else seems to have mentioned getting PMs like this.
