Meeting girls on the net

So I don't usually meet girls through MSN, but there has been one recently, who I kind of really like.

I've seen what she looks like, and she likes me, and it looks like something could happen. She doesn't even live that far away, like only 10 minutes on the train.

I used to believe that you could only meet girls in bars, and at parties, or rather in your real life which is where all my girlfriends have come from. I always said I'd never get close to a girl online, but it looks like this may...change.

So anyway, what are your opinions on meeting girls on the Internet? I'm interested in any of you guys who have met girlfriends through the net and had relationships with them.

I mean, did it work? Did you end up meeting them, and how long until you met them?

As you can tell I have questions, and am not sure if this GD worthy. Discuss.

From my own experience they usually don't keep in touch really..after a conversation that lasts an entire night you won't hear from them for a year. then after the reunion correpondences will continue for a month, and then they disappear.

Internet relations are no different from real ones. Except if it's long distance.
So, the relationship went IRL immediantly after the internets... and lasted... erm... 3 years?
Was far from perfect, so it's probably no different from an IRL initiated one.

I first met the girl I'm dating on a chatroom about 4 years ago. We met at some chatroom reunions and stuff. Eventually things didn't work out (mainly because I snapped out at her and decided to ignore her). She was kind of coocoo too.
Then, due to some unspecified reasons, I met with her again at some message board, about 5 months ago.
And we started talking, and eventually started dating.
But I may've chosen a bad time to meet her, because all the while she was making preparations for leaving to the US for 4 months. =/
She didn't expect things would turn out this way between us, but she figured it'd be too late to go back.
We both want to continue with this when she's back. So, eh...
It's kind of hard... considering it's been only a week since she left and we already miss each other.

But we're hanging there. Yup.
We keep in touch and all that.
(This also makes me wonder how the hell am I going to call her on christmas' eve. hmm)

ps: I might send nero to meet with her. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT I DO THIS. Leo could go too.

If it's only ten minutes by train, then pretty much any point anyone can make about internet-relationships not working are moot because in 10 minutes, it would no longer be an "internet relationship".

I don't know. I think relationships on the internet are no different than normal ones, except there is more TRUSSSSTTTTT needed. Not neccessarily under the "omg is it really a 40-year-old out to rape me", because, um...most people can tell who it is on the other end through their attitude and if they generally take an interest to the same things you do. Not to say you shouldn't be a LITTLE wary if you've never heard her voice or anything like that that is INSTANTA PROOF

Anyway, despite my age and the never-having-a-relationship-ever thing, I do like to think I know a bit about love. I think that if you really think you have something, then go for it! There's nothing weird about an internet relationship, if you ask me. Personally, I would prefer the not internetty type because I am a HUGGY CLINGY TYPE, but at this point I know no one in real life who'd consider for a second even being my friend, for one reason or another, so um, yeah you know where I'm going with this. Really, though, there's nothing wrong with having an internet relationship, as long as you are as serious with it as a real life one--the internet isn't FAKE LIFE, anyway. So it's not weird. No.

Unless you're some sort of weird dude who has this aura around him that makes women want to sex you up, and then there's this girl on the internet you fall in love with but don't want your first meeting to end with hot intercourse, and then shit happens and everyone gets screwed up and this girl you know's sister (who lives in the apartment across from you) starts suggesting you become a gigolo and then after more shit happens you finally meet your dream internet girl and she can resist your aura (I think. Is that what they were implying? I couldn't tell) but you end up having sex anyway.

I mean like, if you're really serious about your relationship, either way it's going to be the same. It's different how you communicate, but if you really take things TOTALLY SEWIOUS then I personally think it's just as good in weel lief than internets.

Generally in a.. 'local' relationship you can touch the other person, whereas you cannot online :< That is a pretty big difference.

Well, the communication isn't really the difference, as you're just having your conversations over a different medium. The big thing is that you can't really go on dates over the internet, or have any physical contact. I mean, you can obviously plan to meet up once in a while, but it won't be anywhere near as frequent as it would be in a normal relationship.

As far as advice goes, I would say that you should definitely chat her up on the phone before you try to meet in person. Other than that, good luck. And wow, 10 minutes... I'm envious!

Last June, I met my fiancée on the internets. She lives 800 miles away, and I went up there and met her in mid-October. She's incredible, but the distance does get to ya. I'm moving there soon-ish, but yeah... we talk on the phone for like six hours every night, and she just finds it amusing when I orgasm all over what a great console the Dreamcast was.
