Very good. I've never doubted the power of speech myself, for all the reasons you list. Depending on someone's sensitivity, it might not even take a whole lot of words to completely derail them.
Only sentence that bothered me a bit was:
That comes out kind of awkward. I would've written it something like: "And except possibly next to whatever deity you worship, if any, talk is the most powerful thing in existence."
That's a little more secular and also doesn't necessarily use "God" as THE religious article. After all, not everyone believes in "God"; either multiple gods or other structures.
