...Why? You're going to listen to GAMESPOT for an informed opinion? Because lately they've been offering anything but. I check gamespot regularly, and as far as I can tell, their review scores (besides TP) are in the same area as pretty much any other site on the internet. So examples, please.

Behold, as I will pull reference material out of my arse, right on the spot!
No, I can't name much off the top of my head, but I'm not going to spend my time looking because they don't deserve it, especially on my precious dial-up time. But basically their view and handling, particularly of the Wii, has lately been unfair and even laughable. Nothing so characterized "they're not going to be fair to this" than Gerstmann sitting on the couch like a douche, refusing to play Wii Sports right? And why is it since then, he's been handling a strong majority of the major Wii reviews? It's not just him, but Gamespot's willing to let him railroad this stuff for no apparent reason. Why wasn't another editor picked to do the Gamecube Zelda, and I don't mean to guarantee it a better score, but maybe to offer an alternative opinion? Perhaps you could say to compare the two, but having one man score both games isn't giving you a diverse view of the opinions this game may generate.
Not to mention their insistance on "reviewing" VC games, which seems to be an excuse to hand out further low scores on unfair criteria and "missing features" Nintendo would have a hell of a time adding. While there does need to be some measure of reference for new gamers to find out whether or not these games would be worth their time from today's perspective, 1up chose the much more respectable route of a buyer's guide, with a simple thumbs-up/thumbs-down system. Reading some of the Gamespot reviews for VC games were ridiculous.

Gamespot used to be the site I listened to for unbiased opinions... until the past few months happened.
They've shifted to once again, the "tilt opinions game by slamming a game to make a point" review. It's really a shame.
Every review Gamespot used to do was always harsh, but it was towards every game. If it was bad, it got a lower score. That was expected. Now, it seems their just giving games lower scores to prove a point, and bumping up scores to do the same. It's retarded.
I'm no Nintendo fanboy, but that Twilight princess review, I'm sorry... was bullshit. Read through the whole fuckin thing. It's fairly obvious he's knocking the game to try and kill hype. I'm all fine if the game isn't your cup of tea, but honestly, he's knocking this thing to prove "It's not the greatest game in the world!" to Nintendo Fanboys.... which is bullshit.
Their will always be Fanboys in gaming, and the fact he's using his 8.8 to try and show these people something, instead of reviewing the game for what it is, is retarded. Not to mention some idiot comes out of nowhere two weeks later in the soapbox section and slams the game again(To be fair, at least Jeff Gerstman is smart. That other fucker is just flat and annoying.)
Do I still respect Gamespot? Somewhat. They still have some very lengthy and worthwhile reviews. I just hope they don't go the way of IGN/Xplay.
*ends ranting*
.... IT'S OVER 9000!!!!

Gamespot (or hell, any site) doing in-depth reviews for Virtual Console games annoys the hell out of me.
"THIS GAME IS OLD. IT LACKS THE FEATURES NEW GAMES HAVE. 2/10."

To Kulock: You make a good point but... sitting on the couch refusing to play wii sports? I watched the, "Wii Got a Wii Marathon" and Jeff Gerstmann pretty much didnt put the controller down the entire time he was there.
As for both versions being reviewed by jeff, practically every cross-platform game is like that on gamespot.
And to Red Rapper: It sounds like you recognized that they were harsh, but didnt start caring untill they stepped on zelda.
Seriously though. 8.8/8.9 ARE NOT BAD SCORES.

I'd have to side with Ashuku here. This is just a knee-jerk reaction because it didn't get 10s or something.

No, but the fact that it doesn't even qualify as a "9" game on their scale when they've been far more favorable and forgiving to other titles (not that there's much of anything to "forgive"), when significant general consensus is "That's not right", it adds another strike against them. The VC reviews are a separate "WTF." And lately, they just seem to be railing against the Wii, at least from what I've observed. Maybe it's just one or two editors, but I've seen enough of it to put me off them for quite a while.

Games are ment for fun, and recreation. If you enjoy the game, (Which Im sure you do, kulock) then what more do you want? Who cares if ONE review got a lower score than everyone else? As long as you like it, thats all that matters.
As for the VC game reviews... I think this was also "grandpa'd" in (Like the same editor reviewing crossplatform games.). They started reviewing the XBLA games so it was only natural to start reviewing the downloadable games sony and nintendo is offering as well. Weather the reviews are good or not, is a different story though, and I wont even touch it.

The main thing that makes this the Gamespot reviewing system retarded is when they can say "The Wii version is better" but give the Gamecube version a higher score.
And if you DON'T see the hypocracy in that, then....

And if you DON'T see the hypocracy in that, then.... I actually didnt read either review XD. I watched the video review for the Wii version but just kinda went,"Oh hey 8.9" when I saw the GC review, and made this thread.
