ITT, we talk about how we currently play Super Smash Bros., and what we expect and hope will come out of Brawl.
Right now, I'm in a transitional phase in SSBM. Basically, I used to suck, hard. I couldn't even beat the game without continuing on Very Easy. Then in the past three months, I seem to have found some kind of reservoir of skill that I never knew I had, and became decent. I started using Sheik, and became not bad at the game. Enough to beat Master Hand on Normal regularly (but not fast enough to get Crazy Hand to come out).
Then I started playing as Marth, and up until about three hours ago, he was my main player. I love Marth, and I'm told that I'm one of the only people who can use his counter effectively (that is, I'm not a cheap bastard =D). I love his aerial attacks as well as his ground attacks; and his edge-guarding skills are superior. He seemed the perfect fighter for me.
Then I decided I needed a secondary character. It's not fun playing as the same guy over and over again, right? So I tried playing as Weege-- and I love him. Apperantly, I do better with a Weege I've just started playing than a Marth I've had practice with for a month. It's kind of strange, but it's looking more and more like I'm more of a Luigi player than a Marth player.
As far as Brawl, I have several things I expect: I expect a ton of characters to return. I expect a lot more stages this time around too, and I expect a more developed Adventure mode (which while fun for the Mushroom Kingdom, severely lacked otherwise). What I would like to happen is if they include Mewtwo again, to make his attacks a bit more quicker-activating, and I'd like for them to balance out the characters a bit more.
I also hope for Sonic to be in, but who nose there =P

I have never understood the people who only play as one character. Personally, I play as all 25. Keeps things interesting.
I'd like to see the clones more differentiated in Brawl, like they did to Luigi in SSBM.

But I'm not 'above' tangling it up with all the other characters; all though I will avoid playing certain characters (like Ganon) because I utterly suck with them =E Yeah, that'd totally rock.

I play as Kirby and taunt constantly. And when I feel like being an ass, I inhale opponents, jump off the edge and let them break out and fall to their doom as I float back up.

Back in the original, I was always played as Pikachu. He had good range attacks, powerful close-up attacks, and his triple jump could get around anyone who tried to jump off the side of the level and knock me down when I was trying to get back up. When falling, he could always attack in pretty much any direction. His backwards throw was also sufficiently powerful.
In Melee however, Pikachu was quite a bit less powerful, so I started playing as other characters as well. Ice climbers always controlled a bit too loosely for me, and Mr. Game and Watch's delay penalties after pretty much everything he did made him hard to use in 4 player matches.
So in Melee, I started out with Kirby. He seemed much better now that he had the hammer and the flaming smash attack. I later tried Samus, but she didn't really have a good downward attack, since her bombs were pretty weak and she couldn't shoot vertically at all.
In the end, I pretty much rotated between Kirby, Fox, Capt. Falcon, Mario/Dr. Mario, Peach, and Link.
Actually, this topic makes me want to play it again.

I play primarily as Mario, Fox or Link. As secondaries, I like Marth, Kirby, Pikachu, Luigi, and Young Link.
I like any character you can get in close with and give your opponent the smack-down.
As for Brawl? More interesting play types would be nice. I also like characters that are a challenge to play. Ness, for one, with his strange jump and the PK attacks. Zelda and Captain Falcon are two others I like, as a challenge.
Also what Leo said about clones.

I have never understood the people who only play as one character. I mainly play as Mario since he is the one I control the most easily.

Link, Kirby, Jigglypuff.
Beating the double master hand straight up (I don't know -- are there any cheap tricks? I assume with Fox there probably are...) with a character is my personal judge of skill, though.

It's really become trivial to me in the recent weeks; I think a much better judgment of skill would be killing Giga Bowser.

So what if it's a different picture, still SSBB-related

I hear they're doing away with clone characters this time around.
Or maybe they're just doing away with clone stuff and the characters will be more fleshed out.
Anyway. I usually switch up characters, though Fox/Falco (Falco more lately, he feels more like Fox did in the first and has more power) remain my primary characters. Depends on the mood I'm in when I play.
I'd classify myself as a great player, but not an awesome one. Still haven't won any tournaments after all.

I dont own the game, but when I play I tend to stick with fox and Capt. Falcon, they seem to be my best characters.
As for brawl... I'd like to see more non-nintendo franchise characters... like mega man would be pretty sweet.

I play them in the sequence they appear on the select screen afterwords I try to use the same character as my opponent, or a clone Against multiple opponents I try to pick whomever won the previous match, unless I did, then I go for whomever was in 2nd place.
Generally in 4 player games I'll stay away from the combat early on if I can, taking advantage of items.
Random select level, unless there's a special item configuration. But generally, it's the fair way.
Megaman would be sweet, but JOE.

I always had a nice solid thing goin' with Ness and Link in 64, but I've always been quite terrible at Melee with anybody. As for Brawl, I'd like Ness to play a bit more like he did in 64, naturally. I also wouldn't mind seeing some more 3rd party characters, like Rockman (classic) and/or Phoenix Wright. (Objection attack? ) There's also a need for some more little known Nintendo characters, like Jeff from EarthBound.

I want a classic stlyed Zelda level to complement the classic Mario one. With the OLD MAN AND HIS FIREBALLS OF DEATH. It would have to be an incredibly secret level, though. A SECRET TO EVERYBODY. That'd kick so much ass

Everyone wondered why Sakurai and a nameless level designer were never heard from again...

Well, I suppose I mentioned before that Luigi, Peach, and Kirby are my "Triforce of Power". Other characters I'm fairly OK with are Captain Hardcore (Falcon), Falco, Young Link and Ness. I tend to avoid the slower characters such as Ganondorf, Bowser, G&W and Mewtwo. Also, I never really got the hang of Roy or Marth. Occasionally I use Yoshi or Jigglypuff, but those are mostly to joke around with. (hindering people with Yoshi's "Egg Roll", or Jigglypuff's Rollout.)

It's hard for me to know who I'm good with. The only human opponent I've faced is Ashuku, and usually, I can't even get to crazy hand, let alone beat him.
Generally, I stick with Mario. Sometimes Captain Falcon. Or Samus.
