Okay, here we post our favourite free ware games, I'll start. Cave Story/Doukutsu Monogatari just to get it out of the way (if you havn't heard of it already, play it). 5 Days a Stranger Great medium sized adventure game with a good horror theme. You are a cat burglar who breaks into a recently abandoned house intending to steal what you can and leave.Things obviously however, don't turn out to be that simple. I like how you connect with the characters and get the feeling that they are really going on doing their own thing.

Uh...hm. I don't have any that I can think of. I like a $20 game that I mentioned here a few months ago...and I'm in the middle of helping make two freeware games, but I can't think of any.
Well...last year I was big into N.

Out of order -A fun English, somewhat sci fi adventure game. You do wander around a bit but there is fun to be had and the ending is really well put together.

Of corse, there's always nethack. *killed* In all seriousness though, I have been checking out a lot of games in research for OPP. All of the games I post here will work at least on OS X and Windows, probably Linux too. Super Mario War is a totally awesome multiplayer (no networking yet) Mario game which runs on multiple platforms. There's no OS X build for 1.7 yet, but I plan on releasing one when it gets out of the RC stage. Battle for Wesnoth gets a lot of praise among turn-based strategy fans. The learning curve was not bad, but I felt the difficulty curve to be pretty steep. MegaMek is a clone of the BattleTech board game that is a pretty good turn-based strategy. I've never played solo, but I've had fun with some friends. It's programmed in Java, and is a bit slow with a few graphics/interface glitches. That is to say it's not polished. I'll post more later.

Of corse, there's always nethack. *killed* lols, nethack. I keep meaning to play that because it is a "precursor" to Kingdom of Loathing. Which I reccomend you all check out immediately because I LOVE THIS GAME AND WANT YOU ALL TO JOIN MY CLAN. > It starts out INCREDIBLY slowly and you'll probably hate ascending and crap until you figure out how to grind the earlier levels quick but it's still an amazingly awesome game. Akuji the Demon--a cute if not easy but enjoyable platformer, where you play as a demon to get revenge on the hero who defeated you ages ago and sealed away your powers.

www.origamihero.com/#3 - A Game with a Kitty. Kind of a Metroidvania Lite sort of thing. You play as... a kitty and you go on a quest to defeat a bad guy or something. It's not plot driven at all so I don't remember. Slowly, new abilities and new gameplay features are uncovered, etc. You know the deal. www.konjak.org/noitu.htm - Noitu Love and the Army of Grinning Darns. A simple, almost NES-style game. It's been a while, but I think Noitu has to rescue his girlfriend from the Army of Grinning Darns. Noitu uses the Darns technology scattered about levels to transform him into different forms - Monkey, Psychic, etc., each with it's own seperate ability. It's not a very long game. blended.planethalflife.gamespy.com/ - Blended: Mods & Maps. While generally these are mods for games like Quake, Half-Life, and DooM, there are a few stand-alone games in here. For example, some of his games use the Quake 2 source code for a customized engine. His stand-alone games are: Grotto King, a simplistic Zelda-style FPS designed to be played with a Gamepad (but it doesn't have to be). Barista, sort of a DooM-meets- Marathon thing. Barista 2, which is completely unrelated to the first game, and is almost like Grotto King, but... you'll just have to play it. Pilot Light, which is a point-and-click adventure that I have not yet played... I really like this guy's work. He's extremely talented, but almost every game/mod can be beaten in under an hour.

Also, I suppose most people remember Lyle in Cube Sector, which is a quest to rescue your stolen kitty, which sorta plays like "Metroid" meets "Mario 2" (and to some extent, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers for NES). There's more, but I'll edit my post later.

Hey cool, it's from the same maker as Guardian of Paradise. Which is a really good Zelda-esque game that I've also made a topic about a couple of months ago.

Subspace Continuum. Very, very old MMO that's very, very fun. Needs little sysreq but looks and plays great.
Meet me on SSCU TrenchWars, I'm Fredrick there.
Hey, look, I can edit my post! October 17, 2009, I wax poetic on how much of a FUCKING IDIOT I was here.

Kye and Xmas Kye (Jr.) - I was addicted to this when I was about 8. Basically you just move a green dot around (Kye) and collect diamonds (or presents). Toppler Tower - A modern version of another old PC game I played back when we were still on Win3.1/DOS. You're this little guy who has to get to the top of these towers and take them down because they're apparently poisoning the water. I used to occasionally be able to get to the top of the first one, but I can't seem to do it anymore, even though I've com SO CLOSE. MegaGoat - Just like MegaMan, only with a goat. A very polished parody fangame. (Also recommended from the same site: Super Smashed Brothers Frisbee). More as they hit me. Oh, and if you don't have it already, BOWEP

Kye? Dude that game was awesome. I remember getting some five level demo in one of those shitty 300+games collections that contained nothing but shareware and demos. I never thougt about actually looking for the full version though. Damn I'm going to download that when I get home. Thanks Spazz!

Holy crap I remember Kye. I was bloody addicted to that game. Another game I used to love was Pac-Guy Resurrection. www.winsite.com/bin/Info?19000000037105A Pacman parody with stuff like ammo to shoot enemies, a rather zany atmosphere, and a storyline vaguely inspired by both Star Trek and Star Wars.
