So I was playing Terranigma a few weeks ago and I was thinking that this is one of the best video gaming OST I've heard recently. It's pretty up there along with the Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger. I then recalled how many great tunes came out in the 16 bit-era. So what are your guys favorite OSTs from that time(not including the Sonic games since we already have a topic about it) Mine:
~~Lunar 1 & 2
~~FF4, 5, 6
~~"The SoulBlazer trilogy"(SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma)
~~LoZ:LttP
~~Super Mario World
~~Super Mario RPG
~~Yoshi's Island
~~Chrono Trigger
~~Scecret of Mana
~~Phantasy Star 4
~~ActRaiser 1
~~Earthbound
~~E.V.O.
~~Lufia 2
There is probably a whole bunch others I have forgotten. =(

Plok, as well as Spider-man and the X-Men, both for SNES. Tim Follin is an f'ing musical genius, and when I'm in the mood for wailing guitar, jazz/rock hybrids, and wah-wah pedal, I know that I need go no further.
Also, Brutal - Paws of Fury. For only having seven songs, the OST was pretty awesome.

Donkey Kong Country and DKC2. The sequel moreso than the original. DKC2 is classic Dave Wise.

I dunno. People really tend to like the DKC2 soundtrack better. I prefer the first. They're still both awesome. Of course, these games come to mind especially since they had CDs released of them.
Super Metroid, which came out the same year as DKC, also had a great soundtrack.
Though not released stateside, Ganbare Goemon 2 for the SNES had a great soundtrack.

My favorites are:
Chrono Trigger Megaman the Wily Wars (1-3 tracks included) Sonic games! Seiken Densetsu 3 had a pretty cool OST too. Ys was mentioned.
But really, the first three are what I consider the class of the field.

Chrono Trigger isn't just one of the best 16-bit OSTs out there. It's one of the best soundtracks to ANYTHING, EVER.
Other goodies include the contents of Mario All-Stars, Terranigma, Sonic 1/2/Knuckles (I don't like 3's music), and Final Fantasy IV (which is, frighteningly, very interchangeable with Mark Mothersbaugh's "Muzik For Insomniaks"). Also, Earthbound.

While the soundtrack of Terranigma is indeed awesome, the game is as well and everyone should play it.

EarthBound's soundtrack knocks over any RPG, IMO. It's so delightfully weird.

Delightfully weird, yes - but in some parts a tidbit too spacy for my tastes. It certainly has its fantastic moments, though.

I love the full Sound Stone tune in the game. While the soundtrack of Terranigma is indeed awesome, the game is as well and everyone should play it. Yes. What he said.

Umm... quick question. Would any non-remake games for the GBA be considered 16-bit, or would they have to have been made within the same era as the SNES and Genesis/MD?

I'm talking about the latter, Jag.
Best handheld music from original games will be saved for a later discussion.

Mother 3.
..I don't care if it was released this year for the GBA. It counts because I say it does. :[
