At least the Lost Vikings made a couple titles. It's not -that- obscure.
Tempo =(.

Argh, you always lose your reply the time you _didn't_ back it up... ZOMG ITS SONIC. The guy holding the rings...retards... There's also a screenshot with Asterix bouncing off of something that strongly resembles a spring in recent Sonic games, although it could just be a pinball bumper reference. Looks like if you bred a jester and Sonic. Sadly, that's likely been done before. Eew. o_O To a person who's dealt with Chao, that's as simple a concept as breeding a Speed type with a Flying type. (The result wouldn't be a perfect mix, it's more complex like that. But Speed looks like Sonic, and Flying looks like NiGHTS.) Saw these shots a bit earlier, it really is awesome. The shots make the game just look... great, and the parodies really seem to hit home just from even this brief glimpse, far more than the ones in Conker.

If you find the Soul Calibur reference I'll give you a delicious cookie. (There's also a Rayman and Jak one.) Oh yeah, I see it! Nightmare with his huge sword with the eye on it is all over the stone temple XD

Oh yes, and GBA ROM has become available very recently - shockingly, rather than copout and make a 2d platformer tiein, they're made a simple but cheerful 3d action game that is actually surprisingly decent. Although I've only played a couple of the 'training' levels, no sign of blatant parody thus far.

Actually I beleive the GBA rom that just came out is of XXL 1. The game we are talking about is XXL 2

You sure it's XXL2 and not XXL? The original XXL came out almost a year ago.

Ah yes, I wasn't paying attention. Still, I'm quite taken with this little bugger (and it would explain why it was also bundled with a pretty awful Streets of Rage esque Asterix Paf! thing.)

I just noticed something, the previoius XXL game was only released in Europe. I dont see why they would release this one in the states...
and on a related note, I just downloaded the XXL GBA rom and... Holy sith, it really IS in 3d!

How weird you guys would start talking about the GBA game when I made a video of it yesterday. Trust me, it gets boring. Having to stand around and kill 30 enemies to unlock a button is stupid, when all you do is sit there and tap the B button for 5 minutes. Rumor has it, the final level makes you defeat over 1,000 enemies to unlock the final door to the boss.

Yes, yes, these parodies are funny and all, but will this game actually be enjoyable to play(not that this game will come to the US where the Asterix fandom is non-existant)?

www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1990Video. Downloading right now. Considering the tiny resolution they are, but how long it's taking to download, I'd assume they're fairly long. Edit: Bleh. Looks like more of the same, so far. Gameplay looks exactly like the original XXL, with "Kill X amount of enemies to unlock door" rooms and everything.

Oh well, if the beating up of the enemies is fun like it was in Wario World, and it does get a Gamecube release, I'll be having it.
By the way, am I the only one reminded of Troy on that first video of the game? ;p

If it's anything like the original XXL, "Beating up enemies" consists of pressing the same button over and over and over until you fill up your "Combo meter" (which takes a good while). Once you fill it up, you can do one "combo" (special move). Then you have to fill it back up again.

Don't forget that the GBA only had B to instigate attacks (A for Jumping and L and R for the camera, right?)... allowing for more combat controls means you can force fighting changeups and strategy more. When you only have one attack button, you're kind of limited to how many times it's pressed, and jumping vs. not jumping.

From what I've read on reviews for the PS2 version of XXL (Called, apparently, "Kick Buttix" here in the states), the GBA version was a pretty straight forward port (if you can believe that). Every problem I've seen mentioned for the PS2 version of XXL are the exact same problems I have with the GBA version - and gameplay videos I've seen on Gamespot do indeed make the PS2 version seem like a prettier version of the same thing I've played on the GBA, combat and all.
